Allow me to re-word that. I usually hear stuff that sounds alike among "artists" with DJ on the beginning of there name. I have enjoyed some, but there isn't much room for improvement when you take into consideration what DJ stands for.

uh! that's just blatantly ignorant! what about people like DJ Shadow, DJ Vadim or DJ Crush? a lot of hip-hop producers (particularly of the underground variety) tag a 'DJ' to their acronym for the fact that in live situations, that's indeed what they usually do, and yes, the production may frequently be based on samples, but it's far more innovative than mere spinning of records by all these trance and techno DJs - oooh, look at me - i can beatmatch!

i like dj's. some of my favourite gigs have been going to see dj's because they play great music i would have otherwise never heard.
my favourites i have seen are Derrick Carter, LTJ Bukem, Kenny Dixon Jr & Theo Parrish, Ed DMX.
Also, some of these DJ's, in particular Derrick Carter take beatmatching to a higher level, by doing tricks with two copies of the same record, playing an accapella, and mixing the next record in.
I can understand why some people hate DJ's, but i think its totally unnecesary to tar them all with this "talentless" brush....its just ignorant..
also, lots of these DJ's, such as Todd Terry, for example play 90% of their own tunes..

and manticore,
sasha doesn't usually have DJ in front of his name.
i know what you're talking about, but Sasha is in a totally different field of them. Progressive House he does.

i actually enjoyed the first half of aridrawndagger. it's decent stuff - not your typical dancefloor song n' dance. lots of ambience and atmosphere.
while i gave it to a friend, it's pretty respectable. just not my cup of tea, but that's me.

Here's my delayed reply. I did say 90% of the time. So there is that 10% of people with DJ on the beginning of there name that don't just spin records. I kinda like DJ shadow. I don't want to insult the world of DJing. Of course it can be difficult. My point is, is that a lot of people do just spin records and little more. So in my opinion one is better leaving DJ off of their name is all since there is a stereotype developing.

That San Francisco mix is one of my most played CDs ever. I used to put it on for the 4 hour trip home or to my g/f's when I was at uni. Being about 2.5 hours over two discs it was great to hear back to back.
I got bored with that kind of house music a while ago but whenever I hear that I'm hearing some of the creme de la creme.
Its brilliantly put together and superbly mixed and is full of great tunes that work so well. Damn, I'm gonna play it tonight.

yeah, it's great stuff.
in the Progressive House, a DJ was just like a bartender. just someone who needed to be there to keep the club atmosphere alive.
Sasha really made it into an artform. San Francisco is proof of that.
