to talk about classics...
I read the first half of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility - the original english version I might add ; ) - and I liked it, but it became a little slow in the middle so I stopped reading... Shame on me, I do that too often.

1984 is great, I've read it two times. It sort of changes direction completely halfway into the book.

i haven't read it in a few years.. not to patronize you, i read it when i was your age, and i really enjoyed it too. i may reread it, what did you like best about it? it's been too long since i've read it.
i've always liked how salinger refuses to let hollywood adapt a movie from it.

catcher in the rye rocks...best book i read freshmen year easily.
other books we read in classes in highschool that i enjoyed: the awakening, the scarlet letter, things fall apart, the stranger...i remember HATING huck finn and heart of darkness (though it was interesting to see apocalypse now after that book -- an interesting adaptation)...and i never cared much for dickens...

things fall apart and the stranger are two of my very favorite books, and major inspirations on the book i've been working on for 3 years now.

One of my faves. Have you read any of his other stuff? Same kind of themes but a bit up their own arse imho.

I read CITR for the first time earlier this year - Really liked it! It's odd, not the kind of thing I'd usually like, but just loved the writing style and getting inside that guys head for a bit...
Definetly gonna check out the rest of Salinger's stuff.
