I've just got hold of what is apparently a remix of Aphex's
'Wax The Nip' by Brothomstates. The track is called
'Novaliquid'. It doesn't sound anything like 'Wax The Nip',
but it's an amazing track. Has anyone heard this?

heard it yet, would like to.

Well, you'll hate me, but I downloaded it. The title line
was 'Wax The Nip' Brothomstates remix. I've just looked on
Google and there is an artist called 'Dune/Orange', which
also appears in the song title I have; this Dune/Orange just
happens to be Nikki Lasso, aka Brothomstates. Now I don't
know if it's a remix of Wax The Nip or not, because the
title comes up on my computer as 'Novaliquid'. But it's a
fantastic piece of music.

interesting.. it's prolly an mp3 hoax/misname, but a
legitimate track by brothomstates/nikki lasso.. would still
like to hear it

Yeh, I've listened to it five times now. It's definitely by
Brothomstates - or rather Dune/Orange - but the Aphex link
is fiction. But if you go on google I think you can find a
website that allows you to hear tracks by Dune/Orange.

Here are the websites:

www.mpoli.fi/files/music/DUNE

and

www.scene.cz/massage/a-f.htm

(the second one isn't a porn site, btw!)

in the past dune was a part of a demo group called orange.
the demo archive is at www.scene.org. just search
for dune or brothomstates and you'll get a link to tons of
tracks by lassi nikko. most of those are tracker stuff so
you'd best use modplug player or xmplay to listen to them.
those tracks are quite old but dune was always way ahead of
most idm trackers on the scene. 'novaliquid' is actually a
remix of an afx track but i never knew which one.

how weird, and today he's signed to warp.. what does that
say?

well, there are much people who were members of the demo and
tracking scene that got to release music on labels, not only
brothomstates. people like esem, ilkae (two guys who were on
the scene - vexion and daze), proswell, machine drum,
blamstrain, etc. most of the guys on m3rck records are
actually former scene members. and it's not weird in any way
- good music is good music. it doesn't matter what tools one
uses to produce it. it's the ideas and tallent that matter,
and believe me, those people have both in massive amounts.

esem, ilkae, machine drum.. all artists i like a lot! still,
that's quite a coup to go from doing an amateur remix of
aphex to being signed to warp (not that bro~ doesn't deserve
it).
