I've been really into this album of late... man there is
nothing like listening to this at night, in bed, with
headphones on... just takes me away... more so then I've
experienced with any other album... I like it, the first cd
is real relaxing and melodic, and the second is like a
nuclear war, or futuristic battle in some places... freaky
stuff!!

hmm, i may have to invest in that. i saw it for £5 the
other day. i've got accelerator and dead cities, plus a
couple of singles and they are all very good, i have to be
in the right mood for it though.

yeah, its perhaps fsol's best release...

i remember the first time i heard "omnipresence" (2nd disc),
it totally blew my mind, the melody was so strong and
beautiful...

I used to love this band, esp. 'Lifeforms' and 'ISDN', but
these days it feels quite boring in parts. There are good
tracks, but you have to wade through all the 'ambient'
messing about in between tracks. But 'Accelerator' is
brilliant.

yeah, that's my only problem with the album, the weird
intros and stuff to the songs... but it makes for a cool
listen as a whole... but if you just want to listen to
individual tracks from time to time, it's annoying!

Have you got their early Amorphous Androgynous LP? I went
looking everywhere for this when I was 16. Gave up, though.

I read an interview of 'em in Future Music mag and they came
across as pretentious twats

I bought "accelerator" in 92, it is still one of my best
purchases ever .

"Lifeforms" isn?t even music - IMHO
(the "Lifeforms" single is a bit better, though)

Lifeforms is beautiful.

Omnipresence is probably one of the best FSOL tracks imo.
The simple beat and that awesome bass/synth. The way they
change the cutoff and resonance on the synth. Eggshell is
brilliant too. That jerky synthline is great, then the synth
goes solo and the track goes into uber-beauty. Cascade (and
the whole Cascade EP) is superb. There are some beautiful
spots on the album that you don't pay attention to at first.
Like the piano in Dead Skin Cells, that track is gorgeous.
The piano drowns into some angelic choirs and the oldschool
CR-78 snare and beat comes in.

-P

It's classic, shame their later Amorphous Androgynous stuff
is second-hand hippy-rehash with pointless crabby vocals.

Maybe the prog-rockers inside them finally could not be
denied, but neither can ISDN or Lifeforms be denied, and to
think I haven't even heard Accelerator or Dead Cities yet..

Lifeforms is stunning and so are isdn and dead cities,
accelerator is really not to my liking apart from two tracks
those being Papa new guinea and expander i found the rest a
bit dull.

I recall the Amorphous Androgynous stuff being quite good.
You know they worked with Ozric Tentacles on Lifeforms.

Shit I remember the hype surrounding 'Lifeforms' at the
time. It was so huge at the time. Bigger than Aphex you
couldn't go anywhere without missing it.

?

Shame the Issness was so bad. Amazing to think that FSOL
have had a number 1. Thats something Aphex has yet to
achieve.

I really love reading Gary Cobain interviews actually - I've
always thought he's one of the most interesting people
working in music these days.
Well worth reading his writings/journal thing on the FSOL
website... I actually quite like their new stuff - The Papua
New Guinea Translations thing had a couple of real nice
tracks on there.
Think the next proper FSOL album might really be something!

I'm certainly hoping so, because i thought the isness is
wank.

I think i'll have a look at the journal though, it could be
interesting.
