drukqs-only playable on macs ...

klaus mollenhauer from germany on 2001-11-03 13:54 [#00048262]

today i got my copy of the aphex twin CD drukqs . When i
put it in my Home CD player it refuses to play . I even had
to manually take out the CD . So i wondered what might be
wrong with this CD and changed over to my iMac dv 400. There
was something strange going on . CD 2 had 2 volumes on the
desktop with 15 tracks each . That was strange , but
playable . The first CD has even 3 volumes .. , but is
playable too. The weirdest thing is , that there´s written
on the back of the CD cover NOT PLAYABLE ON COMPUTERS .
Thats a sad joke . It should say ONLY PLAYABLE ON COMPUTERS
... STRANGE.. Anyone noticed the same . please contact me..
Bye...

Maybe you have a shit cd player or maybe you're putting it
in cassette player, cds don't play in cassette players nor
do they fit, how did you actually fit the cd into the
cassette slot, riddle me that, Batman.

jesus . even my Technics turntable wasn´t able to play that
strange CD..
It´s indeed ZOMBA´S fault . they distribute WARP in
germany and they use a shitty restriction code , that´s
supposed to make it impossible to play CD´s in a PC , in
order to prevent CD-Burning . But macs don´t respond to
that restriction . Strange thing , that this restriction
also prevents CD´s from being played on regular CD players
like mine . a cheap YAMAHA CD player , that plays most of my
500 plus CD´S .anyway . COOl sounds on this drukqs thing .
sometimes a bit annoying straight in my face. while surfing
.. probably sounds better over a HiFi set..

I already made a thread about the 'not playable on computer'
thing before. The first time I put in the CD into the
computer, it worked without problem. After rebooting it
didn't work anymore. Was something changed in the registry?

I only listen to CDs from my computer and now this...

Now, I am listening "Taking Control" on my p.c. and it's
perfect... probably you'd clean your laser lens.

I think it depends what country you bought Drukqs in. I have
played the UK version of Drukqs on 3 different PCs without
any probs.

The first day I had the cd I copied it on my computer, and
it's not a mac. (Winodws) I never listen to original cd's,
only copies. They stay in good shape then.oh, and the real
cd's play fine in my 6 year old sony cd player.

Macs are the best, so maybe everyone in the universe should
wake up and realize this. Its funny how Mac OS X came out a
year before the Windows "XP" also known as, the Bill Gates
rips of Apple Inc. agian Operating System. I hate Microfuck.
It sucks my skinny bootie. I feel sorry for you poop windows
users. Producing tracks on a mac is 10000000 times better
then and generic pc. You are the weakest link, goodbye!

What's the difference between a Mac and a PC, I seriously
don't know!

Loogie from UK on 2001-11-04 17:11 [#00048421]

amigas were the best. by far. but everyone went and bought
pcs or macs, so the amiga died :(

C'mon, I don't even know, enlighten me.

different hardware, different operating system. the mac has
the advantage that the hardware is pretty much a standard
build avoiding the incompatibilites that plague pc users.
the mac os is user friendly but is often criticised by
"power users" who like to fuck around with things at a low
level.
pcs are very cheap and the software is generally cheaper
too. there are potentially millions of different hardware
combinations which is a good and bad thing. the most popular
os for the pc, windows, has got bigger and bigger and err
slower. it attempts to copy the macs user friendliness.
power users might go for a unix os.

mac owners might drive a new BMW. undoubtably a quality
sophisticated car but ultimately the uninformed choice.

pc owners might drive a mitsubishi lancer evo. harsh ride
and quirks aside, the enthusiasts choice.

and then there's those with amigas...

The real difference between Mac and PC is in the
"instrucions set" that is related in how the CPU behave!
CPUs performs little operations on groups of 32 or 64 bits;
tha operations are like ADD, SUB, DIV, GOTO, JUMP ecc...
(it's called ASSEMBLY and it's a programming language almost
at the machine-level). PC are CISC (complex instruction set
computer computing) that means that the set of operations at
the machine level is quite big (and so they are complex
operations); so each operation takes more time to be done.
Mac are RISC (reduced instruction set computing ) that means
that the set of instruction is very little, so these are
"easy" operations which take less time than a CISC
operation! The result is that having a 1GHertz Mac is like
having a 2GHertz PC! (the number are just put to give you an
idea, but they're not so far from reality). Now both Intel
and AMD (CPUs makers for PC) are moving toward RISC. I think
that by 2010 every computer will be RISC.

Macs have only recently used RISC processors... so I don't
think that's the KEY difference between PCs and Macs.

The emphasis with Macs is a standardised user interface
throughout the os and all apllications.
Windows is striving to compete with this.

On a Mac it's difficult to "get under the bonnet".
On a PC you ought to be maestro mecanico...

THANK YOU! I'm genuinely in your debt, I was always
wondering that.

klaus mollenhauer from germany on 2001-11-04 23:01 [#00048487]

Damn the industrie . They are so stupid . Another guy in
germany bought the drukqs CD and his CD player couldn´t
handle that CD too.
So what kind of a copy restriction is this supposed to be .
A CD you cannot play , unless you have a MAC . STUPID STUPID
STUPID . Hope they stay that way . So noone will buy any
more CD´S . Back to VINYL or mp3´s..
