A Brief History of Electronic Music:
1) Early sound exploration through the likes of Athanasius Kircher, Leon Theramin and the Kwakiutl Indians of Vancouver Island.
2) Erik's Satie's prophetic 'furniture music', along with pieces such as 'Vexations', an instruction to play a fragment for piano 840 times.
3) The development in classical music of electronic composers such as Stockhausen and John Cage, coupled with the minimalist works of composers such as Glass, Feldman and Reich.
4) After the excesses of sixties culture, a new breed of music emerges, especially in Germany, through such bands as Tangerine Dream, Can, Neu and Kraftwerk.
5) Brian Eno releases his early ambient music on LPs such as 'Here Come The Warm Jets' and 'Another Green World'. Subsequent developments in this field take place on his own record label, EG.
6) The nascent expressions of early hip-hop in America witnessed by the likes of Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash.
7) Twinned with the work of such bands as Yellow Magic Orchestra (in Japan) and Cabaret Voltaire and The Art of Noise (in Britain), Detroit begins to emerge as a hotbed of talent for a new form of electronic music, 'house' or 'techno', forged by such pioneers as Model 500 and Derrick May.
8) Developments in Detroit lead to an explosion in the British music scene as, firstly, acid house comes on to the scene, a format led by underground producers and DJs, and occasionally bands, such as 808 State; and secondly, the deliquescence of house into rave, a format suited to sampling, heavy breakbeats, and lots of silly voices.
9) In the aftermath of the moribund rave scene, a movement of serious electronic music makers gradually emerges in Britain, through such artists as Orbital, Aphex Twin and LFO. The Warp label plays an important part in consolidating this movement, as do a number of other labels.
10) The scene witnesses a number of mutations, as new musical styles in the genre are born every six months: these include trip-hop, drum n b

10) bass, and a number of others
11) Aphex Twin brings out some poor releases, such as Drukqs, but everyone tries to keep it quiet by reflecting on his better early music instead.
12) Moby comes to be considered a serious artist by the music press..
13) Benni Benassi's 'Satisfaction', a reasonable acid track, shoots up the charts on the back of a raunchy video.
14) Er...
15)...that's it.

19) Autechre sample Larry Graysons catch phrase 'shut that door' and granually fuse it with Martin Luther kings famous speach, splice it over a synth made of pure cheese and it goes straight to no.2 all over the world.
