my bands bassplayer now receives a artists payment from the
government (whats the normal word for that) of somewhat like
400 euro a month, thats like the minimum unemployment
amount. he has to therefor make a minimum amount of money a
year with artistic activities. he plays in a few bands and
teaches guitar.

Well I'm a, um, a performance artist; I'm working on
documenting my ten year work that I call "farting around on
a computer", yeah, that's it, that's the ticket.

And I need funding!

Yeah, i wanted to apply for something like that too (for my
painting-activities, i don't play an instrument). But i made
slightly too much money with my mailman-job. And i don't
wanna quit that either :-p

I can always apply for the funding later if i really need
it. Or you can also get funding for specific projects, like
a book or something... maybe i'll do something like that
later on :-)

Was it hard for your friend to get the funding? Or did he
just have to fill out the form and that was it?

yeah, it's good, he wasnt any good at 'normal' jobs anyway.

there's always discussion on these funding things, because
people get, of course, get kicked out of it eventually, like
big writers and stuff. my solution would be that anyone
could only get it for 5 years or so, and if you havent made
it then, too bad. of course there isnt any making it in
poetry and such, but then you've had at least had five
years... ah well it's a crap idea. anyway i wouldnt want to
have to play guitar all day. i'd end up paying my internet
activities with it ;-)

yeah you do that surrounded, prolly my luminous idea is
somewhat how it works, and who would really wants always be
on that wellfare for always anyway?
i dont believe it was that hard, apparantly you cant make to
much money allready as you said: i didnt know that was with
other jobs as well. on the other hand he has to make money
in the future with the specific art (playing in bands) he
does. he had to fill in what the biggest five concerts in
the last two years were and what in the future years. prolly
a nice story too. you prolly have to be a bit smart at it:
his gf got it once so she prolly knew how. but it shouldnt
be to hard figuring out yourself that you shouldnt write
stuff like you want to use the money to set up a project to
get as many groupies and get as much free beer as possible.

lol yeah ;-)
I read the form. In my case i had to tell exactly what i
wanted to do with the money, i had to make a photocopy of my
artschool-diploma etc.

But the thing is if i would have applied i would have also
had to send them photos of my most recent work, and they
were actually going to judge the quality of the work to see
if i'd be worthy of funding.

It doesn't sound like your friend had to go through anything
like that, send a recording of his bassplaying or
something.

I understand all the criticism on the funding-system. But i
think essentially it's a good idea. It gives artist the
possibility to fully focus on their art. And the funding
lasts for something like 4 years... and after that period
you should be able to support yourself through the art...
and if you still haven't earned any money after those 4
years... it's probably never going to happen anyway. So
you'd have to find some other career.

he probably had to somehow show his skills, he problably
sent some cd's of the bands, maybe they thought him
skillfull enough because he teaches
art is more institutionalized with the art school paper you
have to have, i think thats why my brother in law got
rejected for the fund: didnt do that.
what kind of art do you do?

certainly never did ever receive any higher music learning,
he is very talented, but i doubt that had much to do with
anything.
anyways what kind of art do you do?
