is there a freeware out there that plays audio streams? i'm
SO fucking fed up with realplayer that it's unbelievable.

look for "realplayer alternative" and "quicktime
alternative". they're basically the proprietry codecs the
players use, but they're made as system codecs (i.e. you
install them, then use your favourite player (media player,
etc) to play it).

i'm not sure if winamp reads system codecs (it never used
to, but seeing as it plays video now, and supports
streaming, it just might...) but the bundled "media player
classic" plays realplayer/quicktime streams fine, both video
and audio.
