is there a freeware out there that plays audio streams? i'm SO fucking fed up with realplayer that it's unbelievable.

look for "realplayer alternative" and "quicktime alternative". they're basically the proprietry codecs the players use, but they're made as system codecs (i.e. you install them, then use your favourite player (media player, etc) to play it).
i'm not sure if winamp reads system codecs (it never used to, but seeing as it plays video now, and supports streaming, it just might...) but the bundled "media player classic" plays realplayer/quicktime streams fine, both video and audio.
