what if you could only use ONE piece of software OR one
piece of hardware, ever, what would it be?

Reason because it hasn't failed me yet, it's very sturdy and
i always get results i'm really happy with, and it sounds
good.

it would be Hardware: My SY77... the most complete thing
there is.
You can record on 16 tracks and save your stuff on cards or
diskettes..
it has reverb and other cool functions.
so it's an obvious choice.

hardware.... my computer.

as for software, it'd probably be microsoft sound recorder.
i worked with it for four years straight, and i made some
respectable stuff with it.

you mean, the sound recorder that comes with windows?

O_O

let me rephrase the question... it can be ANYthing. you dont
have to own it currently...

under the assumption that you could have ANY one thing in
the world

i'd say cakewalk for the software, although i use about 3
seperate programs to make drum tracks so i'd prolly be
screwed then.

for hardware it'd have to be my crappy casio that is the
only peice of hardware i have.

of it.

are we talking without using external VST?

if so, I would go for Sound Forge.

if VST plugins are allowed, it would be Cubase SX.

no external...

the questions is just kind of for fun, and curiousity
sake...

but additionally, I think if people spent time and dedicated
themselves to just ONE thing, they could get some amazing
results... instead of learning one thing somewhat, and the
getting something new... never really 'mastering' that one
piece of gear/software.

thats something I want to do... is just learn one piece of
equipment at a time, and not move on until I am confident,
and compitent with every aspect of the software/hardware.

for me... i dont know. I am thinking csound, simply because
it is so flexible... but 1. its so flexible... that it
almost goes against what I just said about mastering one
thing... cause csound can do so much, and 2. sequencing in
it would be a mother fucking bitch

but, I do want to learn it to the best of my abilitiy....
and also Logic. I really need to just sit down that that fat
ass manual, and start learning it ALL.

oh, and Max/MSP would be cool too.

well, you can do pretty nice things with just SoundForge and
its in-built effects.

so that would be the one. it would be a bitch to sequence
though, but it is possible.

I think there are only a few programs which would really
work completely stand alone. They would be MAX/msp, PD, and
supercollidor.

if you got goud enough with either of these you not only
could make your music in them, but you could mix and master
your music with them. although it would be super
complicated to do the later.
