 | so, I have these 2 drum machines.
I want to sell them, but I figure, hey, why not sample the
drum hits before I sell them?

Seems like a good enough idea right?

but is it technically illegal? cause id no longer own the
 unit.

 thoughts? comments?

 | Well, the sounds aren't copyrighted otherwise you'd have to do something silly like pay the company that made them money
if you released any songs, so sample those mofo's.
The only bit where sampling gets illegal is where you start
nicking copyrighted stuff. Like say, ripping off the intro
of Like A Virgin or something. Or sampling old disco
 records.

 | yes you can. it something like a sample cd. you can use them in your tracks but you can't sell the sample cd. so don't
 worry.

 | dude of course it's legal... thats like saying once you sell a guitar you can't keep the tracks you made on it. a
 drum machine is an instrument...
