i just thought i might type this up...
Famous for not really giving two shits about what anyone thinks about him or his music, Richard D. James has delivered a double CD that sounds curiously like Richard D. James. Drukqs is classic Dick: tinny, frenetic, and hard as hell at times; soft melodic and strangely creepy at others. Killer comes in longer tracks like the angelic 200 BPM'er Mt. Saint Michel, while filler lies in 18 - yep, 18 - ambient episodes that all clock in under the three minute mark. Scraps emitted from Selected Ambient Works II perhaps? Basically, it comes down to this: No one is making music like Richard D. James is because nobody can, and while the Aphex Twin sound hasn't changed very much in nearly ten years, it's still twenty ahead of its time.
