link to article

a really clever idea on how to legally bypass current
copyright laws, and distribute music more freely and less
expensive.

this idea doesn't cover all of the bases (like paying the
artists), but, it's a very interesting concept none the
less.

serriously, read it.

...and paying the artist is among the most important things
here...

haha.

I don't mind paying cash to labels I like... I don't buy
much mainstream anyway.
oh to the point, it was a nice concept, but I just enjoy
owning pressed stuff..
and limited, if available :)

but that's just me. for the environment, I guess this would
be much better. But then you can release a limited amount of
copies aswell, just for fun :)

yeah, it's far from a perfect plan, but as of right now
millions of people are doing it anyway... it's just, the way
they are doing it now is illegal.

and the guy does touch on the fact that current recording
industry giants could refocus their energy on becoming
marketers.

one thing is for sure, the record industry is going to have
to change soon, whether it likes it or not, i just thought
this was a interesting idea that i hadn't heard yet.

I thought this was an interesting idea and well thought
out.

But I think the RIAA has already sealed its fate with these
latest lawsuits - this might be a business plan for some of
the smaller, more nimble record labels.

they could pay a flat rate per album per established artist
(monetary amount depending on their popularity) directly to
that musician.. it'd be better than a record deal in some
ways

they could stop charging $20 a cd and maybe people would
want to buy shit.

come on, this isn't rocket science.

DON'T COPPY THAT FLOPPY!

There's a follow-up story by the author to anyone
who was curious about the original plan.
