 | I've just watched 4 Lynch movies in a row:
 Mulholland Drive
 Lost Highway
 Eraserhead
 Blue Velvet.

I liked them all, bar Blue Velvet (I think it COULD have
been great, but truely piss- poor acting by the lead
character and some really dodgey script put me off)

My favorite was Mulholland Drive-great direction, amazing
camera work, nice and fucked (but not too fucked) and once
you work out the story, it's even better.

If there are any Lynch fans here, what's your favorite movie
 by him and why?

What should I check out next if I'm into this style?

 Cheers.

as for being john malkovich, if you liked that you should

it all the way up till the ending, which was a huge let
down. still not a bad film though.

 | My favorite is Mulholland Dr., I think it had better dialogue and acting than the other Lynch films I've seen.
Plus Rebekah Del Rio performing an acoustic, spanish version
of Orbison's "Crying" was just the icing on the cake.

One Lynch scene that always cracks me up is when Mr. Eddie
kicks that tailgater's ass in Lost Highway.

 | i think you missed the point with kyle mclachlan in blue velvet. his acting is intentionaly "hammy" during the first
part of the film, to emphasize his naivety. as he is sucked
in to the world of the criminals his acting changes and
 becomes far more realistic.

its similar to the girl in mullholland drive (the one who
wants to be an actress, i forget her name), when she arrives
in hollywood for the first time. but again her acting style
changes gradualy as she becomes involved in the darker side
 of hollywood.

i'd say mullholland drive and lost highway are my 2
favourites. i realy like the straight story aswell, very
different style to his other work, not a backwards talking
 dwarf in sight!

 | yes, and not on the plays and stories about the guy. makes you wonder why he wanted to make it: maybe to express the
well known feeling of being an outcast. i don't have problem
with over the top emotion and stuff anymore recently: move
me! that goes for music as well

 | Well, I will give Blue Velvet another chance. I was aware of the fact the characters started out hammy on purpose, but I
guess it was a little too cringeworthy in places (especially
the bits with him and the girl in the car...)

I prefer his more modern style (Mulholland Drive, Lost
Highway) though I also loved Eraserhead-wonderful and insane
 and abstract.

Thanks for all the info people-I think I'll get into Twin
Peaks, though I missed it while it was on TV...could I just
buy Fire Walk With Me and enjoy it without understanding it?
I mean, I STILL don't get Lost Highway at all.

 | My favourite Lynch movie is Mulholland Drive. I would probably say it's in my all time top 10.

Which reminds me, I've had the DVD for months and haven't
 watched it yet!

 | you could just buy Fire Walk With Me. but you'll be missing out on a lot of the mythology of the series. it actually is
scarier if you do know what things relate to.

if you have the dough, buy the first season of TP on dvd..!

 | Dune is weird. The first half of the movie follows the book almost letter for letter. Then about half way through it
starts skipping over large parts of the story and really
butchering it in general. All in all it is a lot better
aesthetically than the sci-fi channels version, even if
sci-fi's followed the book more closely (from what I have
heard . .I couldn't watch much of it).
