hey, here is the final version of my first csound
composition. Its going to be presented at our schools,
semesterly electronic music showcase (along with my other
csound piece) tommorrow.

If you didnt like the original version, you probably wont
like this one... cause its longer

but if you liked the original, youll probably like this one
too...

Yeah yeah I know your site! I'd have to be pretty slow not
to have known about your site with how long you been
promotin' your stuff.

I really like this track by the way, nice sounds and
stuff... Not really much to say on an ambient track! Heh.

zeus:

the track is pretty nice, as you say pretty academic, I
wouldn't have minded more events or more dramatic events,
felt that you created a pretty static environment in which a
few events occur, none of which seemed to have any
particularly strong relationships to one another. Timbrally
nice, and definite respect for writing that in Csound, what
a crazy environment for music making.

to your credit, this reminded me that I wanted to get more
Xenakis music, which I am now doing.

Slsk is a surprisingly good for this. Equally surprising is
that the biggest chat room on there is underground hiphop.
Who knew?

i see you have gotten caught up in academic crapola...

i have heard your other stuff and its way more interesting.
academic electronic teachers are a little full of
themselves me thinks....

anyways, nothing against you because your other stuff is
good.

I liked this. I think it's a lot better than your
non-academic stuff. Nice sparse soundscape with quite a
minimalist feel. What is CSOund? A computer program?

think so? most people like my nonacademic stuff better...

thanks for listening...

yeah, csound is a computer program... its all text based.

there is alot of cool stuff on the site... not just csound
stuff. There is a history of electronic/computer music there
too. And tutorials on different synthesis techniques

so all the sounds I hear are written in code? no samples?
I have a question. when you are programming something do you
know how it will end up like? or you just mess with code
untill you have something you like and then work further on
that?
is it a difficult programme to use?

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-07-24 08:33 [#00792070]

yep, all code... no samples.

no, i dont have 100% idea what it will sound like, but I
have a general idea. Pretty much, all the sounds I got,
where what I was looking for.... it just took me some
tweaking to get them right. Its pretty sensitive. One wrong
#, fucks everything up!

it is difficult... but I think it gets easier the more you
use it. For me, there was like a 3 week period that I was
really unsure about it, when starting, but then I kind of
"got it". Once you understand the layout, and how it
functions, I think its so much easier then it seems.

The only real thing that i find the hardest... is the
sequencing... because there is no visual elements, or marker
that show meter.

Its all done in seconds. So, I have to type in, that at
15.175 seconds, the beep happens, and at 16.45, the woop
happens. So its pretty abstract way of thinking.. but thats
also kind of why I like it. Its just different.

But you dont HAVE to write the sequencing in csound. you can
map it to work with an external sequencer, like Logic... or
sample the audio, and use it in a sampler. But this project
was required to be all text based.

hmm well I don't think it's anything for me I think. I was
just curious. I can't see myself actually writing
music.doesn't seem to be very fun, for me that is.
but I'll give it a try. :)
