on monday with 4 other travellers, and i cant wait. never been out of Europe before but ive been abroad loads. Anyone have any tips or anything i should know, do or see? Anyone else going? |

Bangkok = mental. Cool place tho' beautiful in places, also very full on, Pack light coz u can get everything really cheap and you'll probably want to get loads of fake stussy t shirts and stuff... Don't get gems its a scam apparently. Drinks are mental as well, Sang Thip whisky messes with your head. Islands down sound - Koh Samoi / Had Rin area is really cool, full moon parties on the beach gotta be done. You can get life for possesion of weed etc so don't smoke on the beach. |

Go up to Chang Mai in the north and go trekking to the hill tribes - you can smoke dope and opium with them with no fear of capture. Take the overnight train from Bangkok up north which is good fun as well ( i would suggest avoiding the buses). People in chang mai are really nice and it is a beautiful and chilled out place. Go and see the Muay Thai in Bangkok - two stadiums and fights every day - any thai person will know which stadium to go to on a paticular day. Ko Samet - a few hours drive from Bangkok and very chilled out island (it was last time I was there three years ago - might have changed since) - more mellow than southern party islands. Dont bother with Ko Samui - overdeveloped now and like many places in Europe. Ko Pang Ngan (where Hat Rin is) has a bit more character and is worth a visit, paticularly for full moon party time. IF you have time to spare go across to Siem Reap in Cambodia (expensive flight or very very cheap but uncomfortable car journey), you can see Angkor What and other Khmer Temples which are pretty mindblowing. If you are staying in Khao San Road area I would suggest the orchid guest house on the next road over from KS. Cheap, nice owners and pretty nice rooms. If you cant get in there (it fills up quickly as it is well known for being nice) then I would avoid most of the shit holes on KS and go the other side of the main road at the Boots end of the street - some nice quiet and cheaper places to stay over that side. Dont forget a visit to Pattpong to see the sex shows, avoid the go go bars as they are just for picking up whores, I would recommend the sex show bar called Queens Castle II on the second floor - look upwards to try and find it - best of all the places and not threatening at all, even if you are with women it is pretty entertaining and worth a visit.
