 | Squarepusher, Friday July 19th Bowery Ballroom, NYC

Yeah this was pretty fucking wild. Let's get started.

Vibert was pretty lame, this is the third time I have seen
him play, and this was my least favorite set. He played
some acid, some ragga/jungle stuff but nothing too hard
hitting, the most exciting moments was when he played afx:
analogue bubblebath, funny little man (a hit dance track :),
54 Cymru Beats, oh and Isopropophlex - hearing that in a
crowd is fucking awesome. Its wierd cheering for a
performer though when its not his own music, everyone
cheered and luke kind of shrugged. He should have played
more the homewerk ep, thats the jam. It would have been a
great set if it didn't go on from 11-1AM, they should have
had one other performer before tom.

 | Ok so TJ whips out the bass, for the whole show. He's a fucking MADMAN. Has anyone else seen him play the bass
before? How come noone ever mentions how incredible he is?

 | Tom's first 15 tracks I don't recognize, I think they are 90% improv bass over INSANE drill. It is all like the
hardest bits of Go Plastic and DYKS with bass. The only
track I recognize was Chin Hippy, which was NOT the most
intense beat he played over. It was really quite
 spectacular.

 | Tom is so fast that his hands blur, you have to see and hear this to believe it, his hands are just motion trails as he
strums and plucks up and down the base. He would make these
motions w/ his hands w/ the drums. His hands would actually
move as fast as the drums and in perfect time. I realize
that he actually plays the beats and bass in his songs, or
could if he wanted to. He would tense up his face and bob
his head up and down just like we do when we listen to his
music. My friends and I were going fucking nuts, like Tom
was, but the rest of the crowd was pretty lame, which took
some of the fun out of it. A lot of people were standing
with their arms crossed looking at up at him and nodding
their heads. I wanted to fucking lash out.

 | OK I didn't actually finish before. So here's the juice. His final song was Anstromn Feck-4. It was fucking
insanity. He was playing the whole bass line -- double the
speed it is in the song, he even continued to play after the
bass line ends in the track and would like vibrate his hands
over the strings at insane speeds to the beat. I can't
really describe it, again, I went nuts.

 | So he goes off stage, everyone stomps their feet and shouts (a couple of "Come To Fucking Daddy!" and "YOURE THE FUCKING
DADDY" from the audience, I just screamed one solid note for
about 3 minutes) He comes back on and we all here the first
three zaps of Come on my Selector.
I don't think I need to tell you what this was
 like...especially when he "llleeeeetttttt tttthhhhheeee
bbbbaaaassss kkkkkiiiicccckkkk" (he stretched out the vocals
over 15 seconds before jamming the whole bassline). And
finally after like 2 minutes of solo playing at the end he
took off his guitar, showed us his empty beer bottle and
gave a thumbs up in the other hand.

Don't let the skinny guy fool you though, the crowd was much
less rowdy than it should have been.

 | lecoeur: nice to see you, i'll mail you!
Xantos: the thing is, after the set, when everyone thought
he would come back and play a few more trax, the roadies
started unplugging everything. and when he came back on
stage he just shrugged and went back:(.
