following the (possibly) best song ever, i heard a new
offering of this classic by some group i can't remeber the
name...

the genuis that bryan maclean was, now covered by such
artists as

the damned
ufo
the boo radleys
sarah brightman (oh dear god, why?!)

i think the name of the band is calexico or something like
that but if anyone can pint the direction of the real name i
would be most appreciative. cheers.

btw - the original version is by a band called LOVE which is
the 1st track from the album "forever changes" which is
possibly my favourite album ever (despite the fact i love
electronic music)

love - forever changes is indeed a beautiful album... some
of the best pop one can find

"pop" ???

thats probably the last acronism i would use to describe
love. psychedelia, yes, pop, absoultely not!

well I am sorry that you have a trauma with the word, cos
indeed its pop... but whatever... I dont really care about
the name... I just like the music... dont worry so much

including the boo radley and former love guitarist bryan
mclean.

It's definitely ''pop'', and some of the finest around. Only
Sgt. Pepper betters it, among '67 releases.

Alone Again Or is definitely a highlight... Andmoreagain is
my favorite on there though. They don't make 'em like that
anymore.

sorry forgot to mention NEXT WEEK sees a live perfomance
(recorded in liverpool?) of the complete album by arthur lee
from this year. the review i read says this is an essential
compaion to the original which, if true, would be a drastic
improvement on any of his other live performances.

Check out Ocean Rain by Echo and the Bunnymen if you haven't
heard it... it reminds me of Forever Changes... same nice
acoustic arrangements and dreamy atmosphere. Same production
values and lots of tasteful strings. And ''Bunnymen'' is so
cute.

is this a windup? echo and the bunnymen? get your lugholes
around some teardrop explodes at the same time, then listen
to the entire back catalogue of the klf. them read "bad
wisdom" by bill drummond and mark manning and don't say your
life hasn't been changed by these events... ;)

Fack off? I wanna hear that. I cover that song a lot myself,
when I'm home alone. Or when I THINK I'm home alone.

the cover for the new live album is very similar to the old
cover, its just arthur lee on his own.

the name of the band IS calexico
not only do they fucking rock, but they're all these
incredibly attractive, highly musically skilled boys. I saw
them recently at a music fest up in Seattle...

what, I ask, is wrong with Belle and Sebastian? I love them.
forever changes is excellent. why does it always have to be
either or?

sounds ok, but rather an unoriginal choice of cover
versions, god knows ive played it enough times with other
people. so maybe you could enlighten me as to who this
calexico is?

smart college boys from tucson AZ who are extremely skilled
spaghettiwestern/jazzfusion/60ssurfrock/afrobrazilian/post-
musicians that blend this rock. you know?
they are excellent, they had horns and xylophone and a
vibraphone that was not loud enough and their drummer is
amazing.
I give them my stamp of a-pproval

funny moment: if anyone has the extra tracks added on to the
re-release of 'forever changes', the last track 'your mind
and we belong together' (tracking session highlights) is
hilarious... arthur lee bossing people around. not
surprising he sacked his whole band shortly after :)
