apples and oranges maybe but which one do you like best? :

(PS: can Ikaruga still be enjoyable if you suck?)

I've got both. I regularly play both lots...
I would say Ikaruga will only be really enjoyable if you're
good at old school scrolling shoot em ups- most people find
it very hard.

Rez on the other hand has an excellent learning curve and
the music is better than Ikaruga's IMO.

I'd go for Rez if you absolutely positively can only afford
one, but if you can, get both.

i could afford both, but video games are so expensive... - i
was leaning towards Rez but now i'm asking because i heard
Ikaruga wasn't edited anymore (so in order not to have
regrets afterwards...)

thanks =)

fuck man I want to get Rez so badly, but it doesn't go for
less than like $70 on ebay, and no stores around here have
it... anyone know of a place where I could find it for a
decent price?

I got rez for about 55 dollars on ebay. It's great-
definately not a industry stamped out clone for money. It's
weird though. I havn't heard of Ikaruga.

ikaruga is just plain tedious after a certain period with
the points scoring system and everything, and its fucking
frustrating. but the dynamics of it is great, a very avant
garde game

rez looks but i dont have it

ehr... these games aren't available for the same console are
they? So unless you have more than one console, you'll never
be able to play both.

I've only played Ikaruga, but love that one very much. It's
so hard though. The 4th level makes me want to cry.

I'm beginning to understand what ceri said about this game
awhile ago, 'bout getting in a trance :-)
As long as i don't think too much about it, i can sort of
survive in the 4th level (with all the streams of black and
white bullets, each rotating in a different direction). But
as soon as i start thinking: "what the fuck am i doing? This
is way too hard!" I immediately get hit :-D

Oh well... one day i will make it past that damned
level.

surrounded > no, but my brother has a ps2 and i've bought a
gamecube a few weeks ago (with zelda windwaker, hasn't got
any other gc games yet) so i could play both =)

for shootemups with ace music you gotta play mars matrix,
the sounds and colours arnt linked to the action in any way,
but the music's nasty as hell and it's the most difficult
game i've played

BOTH they BOTH rule in different ways, get REZ for instant
gratification and Ikaruga for the long term goal of "uping"
your skill level.

It will get you ready for R-Type Final and Gradius 5!!!!

Both available for DC :)

Rez is also on PS2,
Ikaruga is also on GC.

It's the same for me, as soon as I actually focus on colour
swapping I can't do it and avoid stuff at the same time, I
sort of "autopilot" my colour changes and just focus on
piloting and shooting.

"Both available for DC :)"

Ahh, i see :-)
I already knew ikaruga originally appeared on the DC, but
didn't know that about rez. Rez does sound special though...
i'm still hoping it will also makes its way to GC ;-)

"I sort of "autopilot" my colour changes and just focus
on piloting and shooting.
"

yeah, that is the way to go. I already can do it sometimes.
Well i don't really do it i guess, it's more like it
happens to me sometimes.

It's fantastic the way you become better at the game almost
without noticing it. The other day i made it through the 1st
level without losing even one ship... i couldn't have even
imagined that a few weeks ago :-p

i found Rez for something like 20 euros, new - so, got both!
=)

and i like both (Ikaruga being my favorite though - a
masterpiece of a game... it is very hard but it's a good
difficulty, not a "cheating" and frustrating difficulty like
some games have...)

anyone knows how to free Eden in Rez?

(btw, i know Ikaruga has been stopped producing... it's
getting hard to find now! and i'm not sure for Rez but it's
probably the same)

Rez is discontinued due to problems with peoples playing it
and having seizures.

I don't know about Ikaruga, but Treasure IS working for
Nintendo now, so there's a possibility it still might be
available.

I have yet to play Ikaruga, but if it's a difficult shooter,
I'm in. Games are too easy these days.

And btw, I believe you have to reach certain levels of
accuracy % and item retrieval % in each stage in Rez to get
Eden free. It's a time-consuming process. And you don't know
you're successful until you've beaten the last boss.

But if you're havin trouble with the boss, not to worry.
Half of it is luck. And a lot of bombs. Keep shooting at
everything until Eden reassembles.
