Any Castlevania fans here? The series in on a massive
comeback, mainly due to Koji Igareshi (maker of Symphony of
the Night) and his recent GBA incarnations of the series,
which include Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance and
the newest, Aria of Sorrow.

I am a tad bit skeptical going into 3d though, especially
with the crap 3d N64 titles that came out. But Igareshi is
doing it, and he talks of it as if he knows what he's doing,
and I don't doubt he does.

SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT is still the BEST Castlevania ever...
it still sells for 30 bucks used.

Castlevania - 3/5
Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest - 4/5
Castlevania 3 - 4/5
Super Castlevania - 3/5
Symphony of the Night - 5/5
Castlevania 64 - 2/5
Castlevania 64 2 - 2/5
Circle of the Moon - 3.5/5
Harmony of Dissonance - 4/5
Aria of Sorrow - 4/5

YES! One of the best series' EVER.

Castlevania- ****
Tough as SHIT (almost all of them are), but isn't
impossible... badass challenge and the music is great. Sign
of things to come... I used to play this almost every day
and could never beat Frankenstein until I got older, wise,
leaner and meaner. I still hate those imp guys.

Castlevania 2- ***
Even better music, though not really enough tracks... and
it's damn near impossible to figure out some of the
''puzzles'' without the aid of a guide, or pure blind luck!
The horrible translation doesn't help, either... yeah, I'll
go hit Deborah Cliff with my head, sounds good... :-l The
atmosphere is sublime though.

Castlevania 3- *****
One of the finest NES games ever... if you can, hunt down
the Japanese version, the Konami soundchip in Japan was far
superior and the soundtrack is absolutely INCREDIBLE in that
version. I'd love to hear an updated take on some of these
tracks, rather than just the first level... the game is
huge, I can't believe they crammed so much into an NES
cart.

Castlevania 4- *****
My favorite of them all, I love the gritty graphics, and it
has my favorite soundtrack out of ALL of them... super
impressive piano, percussion and bass samples for a first
gen SNES game. It's long and hard, too... *teehee. I'd love
to see a GBA redux...

Bloodlines- ****
Pretty cool despite the lack of diagonal whipping and the
bad Genesis soundchip... the tunes were well composed at
least. Pales in comparion to CV4... just like Hard Corps
wasn't quite up to Contra 3's standards...

Rondo of Blood/Dracula X- ****/***1/2
It's great for the Turbo Duo and has an (again) amazing
soundtrack. I only played it briefly years ago and I've been
trying to get it again... very underrated and rare. Dracula
X (Vampire's Kiss) is inferior to Rondo and to CV4, you
can't even whip diagonally! Great music though, and
graphics. Dracula is incredibly frustrating though.

Symphony of the Night- *****
I actually don't even own this game, and eve

It's definetly a classic series

Symphony of the Night- *****
I actually don't even own this game, and everytime I go to
the mall or Gameworld, I look for it... I've beaten though,
and it's first rate, though I'd rather be a Belmont and I'd
rather have a whip... (insert predictable ''soundtrack is
awesome'' line here). Best post 16-bit Castlevania, in my
mind...

Castlevania 64- ***
I haven't beaten it, but I remember being impressed, I
wasn't expecting much going into it... it wasn't a disaster.
But not a classic.

Castlevania 64 2- N/A
...Haven't played it. Bah.

Circle of the Moon- *****
I like it more than Symphony...

Harmony of Dissonance- ***
I haven't beaten it, but I got about halfway through and
it's adequate... the music is the worst in the series
though, and that's fatal for me... the tunes are always what
I look forward to.

Aria of Sorrow- to be announced
Haven't played it yet, but I have a ROM of it, just haven't
found the time. I've got high hopes though!

The new PS2 Castlevania: Lament of Innocence looks WEAK, but
we'll see what happens...

I like the prospects of a 3D gothic environment and
architecture though... this screenshot looks much better.

When will this title be released?

November 2003, but it could be pushed back to early '04...
you know how unstable release dates are.

Some of the environments are pretty huge, but the game
doesn't look as good as Devil May Cry or Metal Gear Solid...

Speaking of Metal Gear Solid, have they given a 'solid' date
on the new one yet?

IGN.com says November...

of TWO THOUSAND FUCKING FOUR

I hope they're wrong. I heard it was due out 2nd/3rd quarter
of 2004... either way, it's a painful wait. The 11 minute E3
demo is intense.

I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned the castlevania
game that appreared in the arcades titled "Haunted Castle"
back in 1988. That would have to be one of the earliest
incarnations of simon is it not?

I've heard about it, but haven't played it... looks bad and
is really more of a curiousity than a good game on its own
terms... I think I've got the MAME rom somewhere. The first
console Castlevania was the awful MSX version I think, man
that sucked. It looked like the NES version but played like
a dud.

One Castlevania rarity I want to get my hands on is a PS1
compilation thingy that remade some Japanese-only
releases... not great ones, but it would still be
interesting. The only rare Castlevania that's really a
must-play is Rondo of Blood.

anyone else notice that aria of sorrow came out without
anyone knowing about it? i just recently found out that its
been out for a while and i havent played it yet. circle of
the moon is good but im still stuck because this one boss is
unbeatable for some reason. im about 85% through harmony of
dissonance and expect to complete it soon, although this one
was easier than circle of the moon, i still find it the
better of the two.

yeah harmony was way too easy. i never got the chance to
play bloodlines or x, but i heard the american port of x was
a disappointment compared to the japanese version.

graphics don't make everything in a game, just because
LAMENT doesn't look next-gen doesn't mean that it will be a
letdown. I'm hoping the gameplay will be stellar.
