Autechre sound shit live...

I've just downloaded some Ae tracks. I've got to say-their
concerts must be boring as fuck. I don't mind them having no
visuals or anything, but the music is just as
repetitive/slow building as their albums. Which is fine late
at night with headphones, but I couldn't imagine standing up
for two hours, with two blokes knob-twiddling on stage in
darkness making some nice music which would be fine IN A NON
LIVE situation.

their gigs are quite different from their albums, most of
the time. get hold of the portland 2001 performance for a
truly mesmerising trip

i can't find specific things, it's rarely i see live
tracks...but the ones I've heard are too close to their
albums style for confort. I'm not sure I would want to see
them live if I'll be presented with the wondering noise I'm
hearing-you need to spend a while with that music to get
it...i.e-not a live environment.

I saw them in manchester just before confield came out and i
was gutted because it sounded like they were playing the
same track all night long and they didnt play anything with
any structure all night !most people left :(
the warm up dj was better ,but i still love the scallywags:)

hm well i've never been to any idm gig, but the thing
autechre do sound better than the horror stories of artists
only standing behind their laptops or just sending their lap
tops. and i must repeat my previous statement :|

Um, I say don't judge them based on mp3s made from a
minidisc recorder stuffed under someone's shirt. If you get
a chance, go and see them live. It's different when you are
in that environment and you are more receptive because the
experience is actually more than what's coming through your
headphones. Yeah, the tracks from some shows (in 2001) are
repetitive. On the recording made in Toronto in May 01 you
can hear a guy saying "It's getting kinda boring", to which
someone else responds, "yeah... but it's still cool though".
Makes me laugh. I was at that show and never noticed it,
because like I said, it's different when you're there.

Agreed with you,but I like better their Coachella 1999 live
performance than the Portland one, personal opinion..That
performance for me is one of their best so far..Get that one
and compare..

i understand that the music that i like is good. The same
way I understand that music i don't like is shitty. Don't
patronize people like that, you make it sound like your
music taste is above everyone else who "don't get"
autechre's music

i like Autechres live approach. There was a time i heard
them play thier studio stuff live but nowadays i like the
idea that i will be listening to something i havent heard
before. The first track on the last tour was fantastic
imho.

Seen them live about half a dozen times - not bored yet :P

I've seen them once, and I also have a minidisc recording of
the same show.

I can see where CS2x is coming from, cos when I've played
the recording to others they often say it's boring, but I
find it mesmerising.

If you go see Æ, make sure you or a friend records it so
you can fully "digest" it later. You'll still enjoy the
show, but this way it's like you get a new album made for
you personally...

autechre live are awesome. saw them live short after
confield was released (i absolutely dislike the album) they
played some of the tracks on it and it was astonishing !
especialy the location was cool, they appeared in a local
jazz club after the normal show - quite nice cut from live
jazz to sick eletronix =)

aye, the coachella gig is unbelievably solid, but i like the
insane, yet clubby feel of the portland show :( it sounds
more if an improvisation, too, although i've heard similar
shows

I do "get" their music. I like their albums....however, what
I was saying was that I don't believe the style I am hearing
on mp3's would be exciting when one is standing up in a gig
for two hours.

Still, those who enjoy their gigs-I'll take your word for
it...;)

When are they next playing live anyway?

i though that i was going to die, i had to bend forward
in order to protect my chest from the rolling bass kick
bouncing my heart around. the walls had to collapse ,i mean
would they hold? most of my mates were now crounching on the
floor, and emily seemed to be floating of the
ground.......NEVER had we heard music that loud, honest.
halfway they were forced to turn down a bit though.....
we all left not knowing what the fuck had hit us....i ll
remember that concert all my life...i mean russel haswel on
just before was light.....
