ok. i've just about fucking had it with this horrible
piece of software, because no matter what i do, it wont stop
autoplaying audio cd's even after i:

- disable autoplay under cdrom drive properties

-disable 'when inserting a cd, start playback' under
RealOne player itself

this is driving me nuts. please help.

I refuse to install anything that contains the word Real in
the title. They are a bunch of shit bags who need sorting.

I think the trick is to install other software that you WANT
to auto-play CD, etc.

like WMP 9.0, then it will override Real1

That doesn't really work...the only way of keeping the
program on the system is to stop any services Real starts
when you start your computer and then reassociating file
types with other apps. Because whatever starts from Real
when you turn your comp on changes everything back to play
through RealOne.

but i dont want ANY program to autoplay cds! why cant this
computer deal with that simple request?

why does it think i would be too lazy to manually do a few
extra clicks to start my cd when i want it to?

i dont want my cd to be auto-played, because it could
interfere with the cd burner program. before, right before a
cd was completed, windows media player detected a new audio
cd in the drive and started playing it, and fucking up the
burning process with it.

blehhhh. thanks anyway.

you can fix this, but in different ways (if what you
described didn't work) depending on what OS you're using.
But I don't use RealOne myself, cause it sucks and
Realplayer was included in Netscape, and that's all you need
to play thoose realfiles.
RealOne is like Winamp 3 and similar software that works not
'just as fine', but even 'better' in their previous
releases.

any winamp3 fans here? If a person must use winamp at all,
go for winamp 2.

uninstall it then install it again but use custom install
and uncheck everthing so you can use it when you want.

Better yet, get Media Player Classic. It supports Real (and
Quicktime) playback and is generally very nice.

The homepage seems to be down right now, but if you'll
google a bit, there seem to be plenty of places to get it
from.

if you do want to play realmedia files, get RealPlayer 7 or
8 instead.....still spyware galore but less bad than RealOne

You should be able to configure Real One to not be
associated with certain filename extensions. I'd suggest
going through the Real player config settings carefully if
you hadn't already removed it.

Also worth getting, for any number of reasons, is TweakUI,
for Win 95/98/NT/2000 or Win XP. It'll let you turn
off autoplay completely. And it actually works this way.

hey thanks, i forgot i had TweakUI and yes this works.

i decided to reinstall realone again (yeah i lied when i
said never to be seen again), cos windows media player could
not read rm files and i dont know what else could.

I installed realplayer 8 plus (from kazaa of course) and
gave as little information as possible. Ran ad-aware to get
rid of the spyware. No problems whatsoever with it. Doesn't
interfere in anything and only does its job when I want it
to.

i have realone on my computer, it never bothers me, and only
appears when streaming ram files... when you install it,
there is options... you must choose wisely...

I hate RealPlayer. I hope it dies. I could not get it to
work with DSL - it still took soooo long to load ANYTHING.
And I am sick and tired of the autoplay too. Even when I had
DSL, it would lock up my computer and I'd have to sit and
wait for 5 minutes until I could shut RealPlayer off and get
back to whatever I was doing.
