I'm thinking of picking up the Doepfer pocket control, but
I'd like to hear from anyone who has one. Are the knobs too
stiff or too closely spaced? Should I consider spending the
extra money and get the sliders version?

The "endless" dial sounds interesting I'll admit - and
apparently Fruity supports it...

ok,here is the link: the ugly blue one not the gorgeous blue and silver one

Apparently goes well with Ableton Live and Reason. Nice
cheap little thing.....

if you can afford it you should get the levers and pullies
version.

Well I got the funky - not ugly, FUNKY! - blue one. It works
great. I just plugged it in and started assigning knobs to
different controls in Fruity. Being able to control all
those granular synth parameters in realtime and get those
autechre-y effects is amazing.

I also checked out one of the Midiman knob / slider /
keyboard combos but it was a cheap piece of crap. The
keyboard felt doughy, like trying to play an old woman's
ass. Not that I'd know anything about that.

I used the doepfer one for a bit but I prefer the Native
Instruments 4 control, it doesn't need a power supply and
when you start to change the knobs it effects the 'virtual'
things as if that's where it is...It's hard to explain but
if the slider on your computer is at 124, and you little
knob is at 5, it'll act as if it's at 124...I know what I
mean anyway.

I think I get what you mean - and it is neat - but the
Doepfer model like that was twice the price. And doesn't the
NI control have only 4 knobs?

Yes, but that's one of the reasons I like it. you can do
another 'pass' if you want to alter other parameters, with
sixteen I find myself playing with everything and not
focusing on the main bits.
