whats your experience of these guys.. the non album-producing Warpheads that appear at warp gigs. They is great i think and deserve a special DVD release for parties.
From the radio mixes at Warprecords.com i have been inspired to generate some solid non-beatmatched mixes.
Check out warpDJ mix 1 and DJ Aura for bang-on great timeless mixes. lovely stuff.

I want a 4 DVD set of a VJing equivalent of radio soulwax. That'd be excellent background stuff for parties where you're too mashed/can't be arsed to DJ.

whats the point of a mix that isn't beatmatched
like jerking off and then giving up before you're done.

You seen Roni Size DJ?! He hardly ever beat mixes and usually just cuts at the end of one track.

roygbivcore .. i spent a year using crappy decks with a damaged headphone-in and so "perfected" the technique of mixing without beat matching... now i do it inwork with Winamp and Windows Media player together..... infiitely more interesting than trying to square up beats innit?

ho, but the idea for me is to generate a consistent driving mood with plenty of chords, synths and found sounds bridging your tracks together
Also... fading up/down one track while down/uping another track simultaneously, to a certain rythmn, is also fun..... DJ aura does all this really well as does warp guy Ned and Vibert and RDJ. It all works well with Warp and Rephlex stuff...

I dunno, you can mix harmonically without beat mixing... try doing both at once- bit of a challenge- involves manipulating the pitch on the deck playing ever so slowly so as to be imperceptible so that it is in key with the record you're beat mixing into it. V. tricky, I've only pulled it off really well twice (apart from when the next record has happened to be in key anyway).

just listening to the 1st purple button mix at warprecords......... great stuff. (the windowlicker remix is there and just shows how seemingly "crappy" aphex tracks work "in-the-mix")
