The sadly missed, and long lamented Seefeel were an experimental rock outfit....that made beautiful soundscapes of guitar sound...much like an experimental electronic version of MBV. Plenty of dubby effects, howling feedback...and plenty of distortion...
The Polyfusia release should give you a good idea of what they sound like...and my fave is their last release in 1996...called CH VOX.
Pick it up at warpmart (?). Or slsk. :P

I don't think they sound anything like The Black Dog...but that is just my opinion...I'll shut up.
Their closest relative is probably Mouse On Mars...or maybe Oval...and definitely a MBV/shoegazing influence there.
(IMHO)

I dunno...as I said...I see not much similarities with LFO...excpet maybe the love for deep deep bass tones. But I feel that comes from a deep reggae/dub background rather than a techno background...
LFO was more of a distillation/evolution of the acid-house aesthetic. I dunno...but I don't see much of that in Seefeel as well. What they DO sound like is a rock band with filters and a love for dub basslines...but what the heck...all this is just talk...I could call them whatever and you could call them whatever...what actually matters is that they made some great music while they were at it.
Hail Seefeel!

'Starethrough' EP is fine too.and Mark Cliffords remixes of the Cocteau twins are incredible (his new Disjecta cd 'True-Love By Normal' is a bit of a belter too if any of you Seefeel junkies havent yet got it)

seefeel definitely does not sound like black dog, lfo, mouse on mars, or oval.
take my bloody valentine, add some dubby qualities, smooth out the rough edges til everything is soft and flowing, add hypnotic repetition and you've got the classic seefeel sound.
from polyfusia (a compilation of the first two ep's) through the starethrough ep, their sound was ethereal, repetitive, flowing dubby soundscapes with mostly unintellible echoey female vocals. basically, everything except the bass and percussion is dependent on extensive fx processing. the first ep has an indie feel, rough around the edges, and the sound is gradually smoothed out and refined in later recordings.
for fracture/tied, succour and ch-vox the sound is more experimental, abrasive, with rumbling and grainy textures with ambient touches. a few tracks here and there resurrect the vocals and dubbiness, but not much.
if you like seefeel, seek out the "come alive (climactic phase) remix" that was released on the volume seven compilation, (or was it eight?), and the remix of ae's "basscadet," and as someone mentioned the fantastic "otherness" ep by cocteau twins (remade by seefeel's mark clifford).

Your post is awesome. Seefeel rules.
(the remix is on Volume 7)
Don't forget the Starethrough EP with the Incredible lux1. Sadly almost all of it is out of print.

Hard to say, but I imagine it was Mark Clifford pulling a Roger Waters on the band and taking it in his direction with little input from the rest of the members. After the split all the members got involved in quite a lot of other projects.
In my opinion none of them were as good as the original band, but Mark Clifford's work as Disjecta and Woodenspoon was pretty good.

A while ago I stumbled across some Seefeel white label 12" with 'stare through [charlotte's dub]', 'signals [momentum 1.3]' and 'filter dub [low pass]'
Anyone know anything about it?
