Hey peeps,
Does anyone know of any software packages where you can use images to write tracks?
I'm clutching at straws to get myself past a 5 year "writers block" where all I can produce is loops that go on for eternity.
All I'm doing at the moment is drawing moving images in flash and trying to write stuff that fits with it. :(

Why don't you get a book on chord progressions? just learning how to work with a ii - V can open up a whole world of possibilities. Or work in a new mode. I'm doing something in phrygian - starts on the third note of a major scale.
But mainly I'd say if you're using Fruity or a tracker, drop it and get a proper sequencer. I've always used Cakewalk and recently I got Fruity - it's an interesting program but I can see where you could fall into a loop-trap since it's not easy to arrange a proper song. I'm fighting the playlist every step of the way.

A small town is just a collection of communities. A group of people just like this message board helping each other out in times of need e.t.c.
anyone else?

I'm using Reason 2.5, Cubase 5, hardware samplers, drum machines, guitars e.t.c. I've been doing it since I was 12 but I've done nothing for the last 5 years that has made me stand back and say: "Wow! Thats it".
what is FruityLoops anyway? Is it like Acid (got that as well).

Being in a rut suggests you need to try something new, and being in a loop rut suggests you have to do something with a more narrative compositional structure like classical or broadway.
I used to do these pseudo-classical Danny Elfman-ish pieces with Cakewalk Express and a general midi card. Try doing something like that. I couldn't really loop short bits with that setup because they sounded like cack. The merits of the piece (if there were any) had to come from the composition.

no, its a VST / DXi sequencer with an effect rack and a sampler and blabla
if you know how to work it and avoid making 'floops-y' tracks its a good program
you might want to get Cool Edit or a sound edititng program as well

cheers guys,
I don't think I'll be getting anymore music packages. I have spent more money than I should have on music stuff over the years and I used to be producing a track an hour with nothing more than a crappy keyboard, DR660, Guitar and 4 track (ohh and my Zoom FX rack, shweet).
I wish I still had the midi files from all those years ago.

If you've already got Cubase I'd stick with that! It's a terrific sequencer.
