singles are too expensive. album prices have come down so now the price ratio of singles to albums is absurd. make singles 2 quid again. and limit them to 2 tracks perhaps. gotta try something different anyway.

agreed.. and artists should release singles in america too because there are a lot of people, like myself, who would buy them if they weren't pricey imports.

I think the music industry is completely shitfucked. Production gear is cheaper than ever, the means of distribution are cheaper than ever, and the most-pumped artists are more boring than ever.
Hence, the "industry" is being supplanted by talented semi-amateurs, some of whom are going to make a healthy living at it eventually because they will appeal to niche demographics like us who are more liable to financially support their favorite artists.
Any media empire that is based on scarcity (now artificial scarcity) of product is doomed. End of story. You can whine and moralize about it all you want - but the only alternative is ridiculously draconian countermeasures that are too little, too late. Even if you eliminated piracy (ha!) there's just too much competition for the big boys and their generic mush meal music.
