ive been influenced by many bands from different genres. As
long as the band has a unique sound to it (Aphex, Tool, NIN)
I can get into it.

just saw a top ten in a mag from Sayyid and Priest, now
working as Airborn Audio without beans, both put 50 Cent as
either their first or second choice.

well 50's hot but not that hot.. kind of a strange order if
they put him first and not some other choices, but
whatever.. at least they're men enough to admit who they're
feeling. is this new project coming out on warp too? i think
all 3 emcees signed solo deals with warp but maybe not..

as i said above... i'm not putting down your musical taste,
just your lack of understanding and, more importantly, your
complete resistance to "getting it".. art is meant to be
appreciated, not pledged allegiance or resistance to. i'm
not saying 50 cent is a great artist but he's hardly shit
and it's really sad that people openminded enough to be into
aphex or peter gabriel have to resort to such an us vs. the
mainstream mentality instead of just trying to understand.

50 cent is the last person on earth whose music can be
considered art, all he talks about is fucking and drinking
beer, i heard the whole album and its possibly one of the
worst hiphop albums ever created--my opinion but explain to
me how art = rapping about nothing creative, all of what he
says has been done before in hiphop and even when it was
done previously is a stupid excuse for making music....its
just party music, and its not for me at all but im not going
to stop anyone from listening to it.

not exactly true ("all he talks about is.."), but even if it
were, how is he any different from an M.O.P. or N.W.A., who
are almost universally lauded? or from the godfather or any
really good gangster film. i'm not saying 50 is an original
or the best at what he does, just good and there's
definitely some talent behind it, even if it's not my cup of
tea. you don't have to be a fan of something to recognize
its merits..

"art is meant to be
appreciated, not pledged allegiance or resistance to. "

That was one of the best statements I have heard here or
anywhere else in a LONG time. Good job Tits.

I personally am one who can sit down, smoke some herb and
nerd out and listen to Draft 7.30 and enjoy and then
afterwards go DJ at a house party, play 50 Cent, watch the
girls lose it and be thrilled. There are different times
for different things.

In response to specifics: MOST great art is about fucking,
drinking beer, fighting and killing. See: Homer,
Shakespeare, et al.

Also: Rap music is not text, it should not be interpreted
solely as such. By doing so you ignore the fact that it is
first and foremost MUSIC.

totally agree with what you said about "There are different
times
for different things" (and incidentally also about what most
great art is about). some people think it's really cool that
i like almost all types of music (and i mean REALLY get
into), others just have a hard time understanding how i can
go from vic chesnutt to mogwai to ODB to dose one to slayer
to boards of canada to spragga benz to tori amos, etc. etc.
but for me it all has its place and function.
