way to fight RIAA?

I assume it is legal to share your own music tracks
on p2p file sharing programs. And since they are targeting
people with the most files, lots of people could make "dummy
mp3's". These would be really short mp3's with just one
percussion hit or something (so you can have a lot and they
don't take up a lot of room) These would all be tracks "made
by you", so they couldn't sue you I guess. I guess the point
would be to make it harder for them to pinpoint people who
really are sharing other's music "illegally". I don't care
enough to do it myself though.

aren't they looking at actual traffic, not so much how many
mp3s you have on your comp?

no, it is "sharing the most files", i'm not sure how they'd
know how much traffic the person gets asides from watching
their queue

the riaa needs to find a way to make it legal, like iTunes,
or something.

it's really obvious

ok, that was poorly written.

computers and the internet aren't going away. neither is
music.

so, they need to connect the dots instead of trying to keep
it all seperate.

This is classic disruptive technology. It has happened so
many times before. Everything from the steel industry to
Woolworth's to hard drives. I guess they don't have many
economists on staff at the RIAA, just lots of lawyers.

There isn't a lot of hope for the record industry - they
haven't changed their ways fast enough.

integration of technology requires change, but pays off in
the long run.

Buy the nusic that you really like. Don'y be a shitty nerd.
Collecting evertything some 'alternative' person has made on
Mp3 is not helping anything.... V snares makes about 2500
pounds each year from his music. Autechre have beeen lucky
that radiohead mentioned them as influences, they don't need
to sell their music hard for 3 months. You are not beint
original or even interesting by challengiing big record
companies. If you don't save up your money and buy Rephlex,
Mego, Warp etc you are complete tits.

nothing more than a beat programmer.

But they're a bit special in the whole stupid culture of
electronic music. They put some serious lovin' in
their craft, inspiring many to also express themselves (or
relieve themselves, like otto) through the medium of sound.
They're like a john carmack.

something.

I don't need you to listen to my music, because I realise
what I do is shit to most people, but I like it because I
make it and t comes from my heart.

I don't know what sort of reaction you were expecting from
me when you said you knew them personally...

errr, given that most people moan because I post up too much
music you are way off about me not exposing it. And you
were going to give an honest opinion but you know it is
definately shit when you haven't heard it...how very mature
of you.

Here's another way to fight RIAA: Have many p2p users use
the alias "RIAA law enforcement unit". This will make real
members of RIAA think everything is under control when they
come to that file sharing program.

Um... lads... calm down eh? I can see a fine progression in
this thread from casual comments and well-stated opinion to
flame. Via misunderstanding. Cool down, re-read the thread
and see where it went pear-shaped? Can you see it?

consenrate on 'Harry Potter' and be a sad twat.

Jivverdicker: "so, rob, do you and sean want to come over
and watch harry potter with me?"

Rob: (makes gestures to sean to make up some excuse so they
don't have to go)

Sean: (In overacting loud voice) "Um, Rob, but we have
that... that... sausage.. convention (continues sticking to
the story even though he realizes it is too late to think up
something better) to go to? Yeeeah... that sausage
convention."

Rob: "Oh, dang it all, Sean just... reminded me that we have
this (rolls eyes at sean) "sausage convention" to go to,
sorry."
