Like all things in my life, Winamp 2 decided crashed on me
one time too many, so I uninstalled its ass. Trouble is, I
don't know any other reliable audio players, can someone
recommend me one that ISN'T a stinking bucket of useless
wee-wee?

Don't try WMP!

I'm currently using RealOne player.

If you want to be cool, you could try foobar2000. It is
by one of the original authors of Winamp.

Don't expect a lot of eye candy, but it has some very nifty
features.

RealOne will fry your computer dude....!

Use MusicMatch or look for free ones on href="www.zdnetindia.com">here.

If you're having major problems with Winamp 2 then I have to
say it's probably your system or a plugin at fault, rather
than Winamp itself, which is, given the amount of use it
gets with most people, one of the most stable apps around.

If your computer is so fucked up that Winamp 2 is unstable,
maybe it's time to upgrade or reinstall your sound card
drivers - or even reinstall Windows, especially if you are
using 95/98/Me.

Winamp 2 is just not a crashy program.

IMHO WMP is bloated trash and realplayer is - words fail me
- :P

As long as it is compatible with damn near every audio file
in existance, and has a decent graphic equalizer, I'm cool.

I'll check it out, thanks.

Winamp 2, Winamp 3. They're both great, and I make love to
them on an hourly basis.

Winamp 3 was devestated at some of the remarks it read on
this board and hasn't returned since

It's designed as a small and fast audiophile player. There's
no built-in EQ as far as I know. It supports most open and
semi-open formats but I'm pretty sure its author wouldn't
touch wma or real audio with a 10' bargepole.

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2003-06-27 16:33 [#00759841]

It never crashed on me on a P133 running Win 95.

It never crashed on me on a Celeron 500 running Win 98.

It never crashed on me on a P4 running Win2K.

It's a good stable app!

It's not a piece of crap!

I will not eat green eggs and ham. Sam I am.

Verty, can that thing read CD audio directly through the IDE
interface or does it need one of those wee wires connected
between your sound card and CD player? I can only listen to
CDs on Winamp because my sound card doesn't have that
interface and only Winamp (that I know of) supports direct
read.

Actually there is a CDDA add-on thingy from the main
download page that should add CD playback. I tried it and it
works fine. I wouldn't have a clue if it does what you need.
It's a pretty small download though if you wanted to try it.

Hehe, just having fun. Mac users tend to be left / liberal
and right wingers tend to be big fans of Bill Gates. And
Linux users are political surrealists!

It works pretty good. I think the third-party CDDA plugin
for Winamp has better oversampling though.

*bump*

I reinstalled the latest Winamp 2, only to discover the same
fucking problem. HELP! Whenever I close it, a box comes up
that says 'Winamp has caused an error in KERNEL.32.DLL' what
the fuck is that??? I click 'Okay' and the box
reappears...over and fucking over, then when I shut my comp
down it stays on the same sorry ass black screen with a
flashing underscore in the top-left corner, every single
time. Why does Winamp hate me??

yeah, like, winamp2 is easily one of the most stable apps on
my system.

you running latest version?

does anything else crash and burn on your system?

tried upgrading to a half-Real(tm) operating system if
you're using windows 95/98/ME?

2K, XP.

95/98/ME kernels are shite, m8.

i don't think the problem's with winamp; it's either your
windows installation's rooted (windows itself, shitty
driver, spyware/viruses doing strange shit, who knows), or
you've got a hardware issue.

might be time to reinstall..
