and that makes things SO lame. instead of using his brain,
snares used his software. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn. he could've so
easily made tracks using the real sounds, not filtered to
oblivion. weak artist.

just not creative (enough to warrant his hype).

bootleg the show. i will give you money.

and this whole software/brain thing is kind of a blackhole,
you can use your brain to make music but you'd have to do it
through hardware/software. and you can use software but you
have to use your brain to use it. it's a no win situation.

im not holding the mic...if i'll be accompanied by someone

bootleg it :)

btw, did you check those bootlegs on funk's site?
i love that dresden one (and the quality is pretty amazing

mr. funk gives the people what they need: terrifyingly fast
breaks... there isn't another artist in the game who's
released as many choice cuts as he has in the last 3
years...
and having heard his progression through to his last full
length Witboas, which is a much more calculated affair... i
have much hope for his future releases...

thats a pretty bold to say snares isn't creative. compared
to who?

i can't think of many folks who are nearly as creative +
able to make amazing sounding trax...

compared to artists who can not only program fast beats but
offer something interesting in the melodic, rhtyhmic (ie:
not just a barrage of snare rushes), and timbral department.

or compared to someone who, when promised an album made up
entirely of samples from sex, RELEASES an album where the
sounds are easily recognizable. you could filter the sounds
of wheels squeeling into a beat but why bother if the
listener will never know what it was? nymphomatriarch is a
missed opportunity.

not creative in a way of releasing stuff-he's probably the
most creative guy when it comes to that
but in a way that he's music is really not much more than
something that makes you go mental, which is great...tho
when it comes to musical creativity he's really not in the
league of the top idm producers (IMO) or at least i dont
find it that way

Yep. Same with Nunu... some recognisable insect sounds as
percussive elements, but slowed down, filtered, delayed etc.
to oblivion for background "synth" sounds. When I told my
dad about this release he was really excited, but when I
played it to him he thought it was a bit of a cheat when I
explained what the background was (he didn't believe it was
insect noise).

i thought "nunu" was more creative than what i've heard from
nymphomatriarch.. but that's what i mean about "lazy
artist." sure, it's a kicking new track, but really it
sounds like everything else you did, why even mention
they're "sex sounds" if you're just going to distort them to
holy heck. it's cheating, like your dad says.

while i you described music that i, and most people like, i
don't think that makes snares un-creative because his music
isn't really rooted in that.

i can't think of many other artists who are doing things
more creative rhythmically. he works in time sigs that very
few other artists in electronic music even attempt, and does
them well (to my ears).

he's got dozens of trax with crazy, strange, and inventive
concepts.

i don't think theres any need to say one artist is the best,
because enjoying alot of different artists and music is part
of the joy of music, but i just wonder what amazing artists
i'm missing if snares isn't creative....

i haven't heard nymphomatriarch yet, so i can't really
comment on that. but i certainly didn't/don't expect it to
sound like an album of sex sounds.

you're forgetting that i like snares too, i just don't find
him very creative. creativity is not why i listen to him.
still, he had an opportunity to do something creative with
this project and he botched it. it's SUPPOSED to be an album
of sex sounds, why shouldn't you hear it?

what snares is doing rhythmically is interesting but not
that creative. it's fast and intricate, but it's not unique
and he doesn't have a profound rhythmic sense. people who
just spend as much time obsessing over the beat patterns as
snares are ending up with extremely comparable material (see
enduser and /dev/null, among others).

Its the simplicity which does it - there be raw emotion in
them thar beats. I don't really give a fuck where the soundz
originate just as long as it works. look what mozart,
beethoven etc did with just a piano.

i agree with titsworth. ya just got to bring up the
squarepusher/vsnares comparisons.... squarepusher keeps the
rythmns and musicality and the craziness. VSnare
just has crazyness and melodies.... i like em both but...
squarepusher shocks me with his musical
talent, VSares doesn´t

agree completely, tho i've given vsnares a lot more listens
lately than anything squarepusher's released after music
is rotted one note
(minus go plastic which is
arguably his best album)

Yes Pusher be talented but Snares gets listened to more why
cause it's got gimmick and purpose- me I don't think vsnares
is crazy at all - It seems conservatively logical to me. The
logic emmitting deliberate emotion. What purpose? Give me
some old time love songs.

I don't really like Squarepusher at all, I have Music Is
Rotted One Note, and it's likely to be an album I appreciate
when I'm 40 and really sad.

Go Plastic is mediocre, and I feel it gets worse with every
listen... sounds repetetive and generally boring.

-----

Venetian Snares is something totally different, I listen to
it (I only have Higgins) to feed that rebellious side of me.
The side of me that wants super high-speed drum programming
and a general in-your-face attitude..

Overall:
Squarepusher: Go away
Venetian Snares: Yes please

witboas gets atleast one listen a day for the 3 weeks. what
about making orange things I feel that this will go down in

what it boils down to.

but i have to wonder what people think is really creative if

no, not at all. i think alot of artists are skilled but not
creative. for example, bad company (the d&b producers) are
amazingly skilled at writing d&b tracks. but not very
creative.

then you've got people like stuntrock or animals within
animals, who are very creative, but not super skilled at
making trax.

i think snares is both. not necessarily the best ever, but
quite good. thats why i was looking for specific examples
of creative artists. if i'm missing out i'd like to know.

You are all wrong , pushers latest release (minus the crappy
live disc) is superior.
Nuff said! =)

VS is miles away from creating anything as inovative (and
uber Whicked ) as for example "Kill Roboc" or "Mutilation
colony"
But he is trying tho , experimenting like hell and he isn't
there yet but there is hope.

I love VS music too and i respect his very vital mad skillz
but on the same level as Tolstoyed described.
