OK, I know we have a number of RIAA related topics at the moment, but this one does have it's own clear purpose.
Now, this may seem futile (so please, no need to tell me it is), but what the hell, I have time to kill. I'm going to set up an RIAA boycott website and would like suggestions as to stuff I should include on it.
I guess it should have a clearly defined set of aims too. Any suggestions?

The site will be at kicktheass.org, the ass refering to the ASS in Recording Industry ASSociation of America.
I'm going to target the site at Joe Public and point out in simple terms why they should boycott RIAA labels. I'll do this by using lines like:
"The ASS wants to stop you sharing music with your friends"
"The ASS killed Napster"
"The ASS wants to stop you using Kazaa"
"The ASS screws over it's own bands. Just read what Nirvana producer Steve Albini had to say..."
You get the idea. Basic bullet points designed to quickly register with people. I'll combine this with some slogans that can be put on buttons, banners, mugs or whatever. Slogans like:
"I kicked the ASS! - Say NO to BIG music"
I was thinking about having a list of aims, but instead I've opted to have a more general aim along the lines of 'To bring the RIAA to it's knees until it starts listening to it's customers". I'll word it better, but again, you get the idea.
Of course, it will also be necessary to let people know about all the good non-RIAA music out there so I'll include some kind of artist/label directory.

it's hard to boycott the RIAA tho, it's like boycotting the Food and Drug Administration cos they won't approve a medicine you want.. there's almost nothing you can do except complain.

you boycott the riaa by not supporting clearnet affiliated radiostations... not buying records from any of the major record labels or any of their subsidiaries... catapulting carcasses at their skyscrapers...

When I say boycott the RIAA, it's really boycotting the labels who are members of it, but it's just easier to say 'boycott the RIAA' here and most people here get what I mean.

if you boycot the labels by not buying their releases, 1) they wouldn't realize you were boycotting the RIAA, 2) how's that different from what most of you are already doing? most of you don't buy major label releases cos either you're not feeling the music (normally i'm not either) or you support piracy (either 100% of the time or only when it comes to majors). radio stations, similarly, i really don't think many of you listen to clear channel owned stations, and if you stopped listening, 1) how would that show a boycot of the RIAA? 2) how would anyone know you stopped listening?
in all honesty, i do think the carcasses idea is the closest one. i think guerrilla tactics against the RIAA will get the message across best.

that's because i've been boycotting them for a while... it doesn't matter if they don't know that i do... once they've gone through all this silliness with trying to sue fans... and they realize that a large portion of filesharers don't even have their shitty music on the computer... they can watch their sales drop some more... to me it's less about undermining the overground than it is empowering the underground... i'll have spent well over a 1000$ on music this year, by the time it's over... the more money in the hands of independents... the more exposure they get, the more exposure there is of artistically inclined independents, the more condusive the environment is to creativity, and innovation...
i'd say the best way to boycott the riaa is to turn your friends onto independent music, shop at independently owned record stores... if you do that already, then good boycotting i say!

in the news recently:
they managed to capture the guy who spread "the Hulk" -to- the internet (two weeks before theatrical release)...
he's facing three years or something.
the worst thing about music/movie piracy is that some people actually settle for less quality... cheap bastards ;)
pay for quality. support what deserves support. It's that simple.

Are you asking who are members of the RIAA?
If so, well, it's basically Sony, Universal, Time-Warner, Bertelsmann and EMI and the vast array of smaller subsidiary labels which they have. There's a list at riaa.com
These big five are responsible for 85% of music sold.

i love when people on tv defend music downloaders saying they don't want to "pay $18 for a cd where they don't like 10 of the 12 songs". i pay as little as $10 for cd's (and never more than $14) and i only buy stuff where i'll love 75% or more of the tracks. that's partly cos i "preview" through downloading, and partly cos i invest a lot of time in learning about the artist or album before i commit my money to it. bottom line is, it's just a funny excuse. people need to learn to be savvier shoppers and not pay the huge prices stores will charge the dumbest members of the population (or the most rural areas of the country, as these places never have independent shops and often don't have bargain chains like best buy and tower).

its the same as the movie industry. if people stop paying for crap, crap will cease to be marketed. sadly, this doesn't occur, and people simply buy things without thinking and then complain when it doesn't fulfill expectations.
