sorry folks but i´m just not happy with the lack of
enthusiasm for the bonus CD of DYKS...

When it came out i was like "bloody hell, Toms releasing a
LIVE set from his favourite country to play in, Japan and it
features loads of Go Plastic tracks tweaked to the extreme
on his digital setup".....

. and sure enough when i heard it... it sucked me right into
his angry world... being drawn into the depths with his pop
cutups, Exploding Psychology, Redhot car and DYKS...then...
letting a newer track drag us into his 3 GP heavyweights
before launching the assault of "My fucking sound" and
ending on the punching breather of track Angstrom Feck...
pure genious to release us from his grasp with that killer
tune. CMON THEN!

It is an exellent cd but some people can't get on with the
shitty sound quality due to the lack of soundboards.

Infact I'm gonna play it now.

every time you make a post about how excellent this cd is...
i decide to give it another try and listen to it one more
time.

But i just cannot get into it. It's like Go Plastic,
but not nearly half as good, with poor soundquality and lots
of screaming people.

I've said this before: i guess you just had to be there.

mind you, i dislike live-albums in general. The only one i
regularly play is nirvana unplugged in ny. I have a couple
of other live-albums by various artists. But they generally
just sit on the shelf and do not get listened to :-p

Yes I prefer studio albums, although anything with guitars in
it sounds better live as the artist usually puts in a
personal touch.

laymans terms man!

so by "he didn´t use a soundboard" people mean he didn´t
record direct from his PC but recorded externally (getting
the audience too)...
... i like the audience and Tom noises... it l
ends atmosphere

Yes he recorded it via microphone or whatever.Thats why you
can here the audience and all the echoes/reverbs.Explaining
the "tin-can" effect.

This soundboard crap.... are people sort of "I say - if i
wanted to hear some japanese folks screaming i would have
hopped on the Leer jet and gone there myself. what does Mr.
Jenkinson think he´s doing?"

Its fucking live and full of energy people. the best,
musically, you can be

well that's just it. It's all about the energy. Tom
screaming, the way he plays the songs... it's all just for
one purpose to make the whole experience as exciting as
possible.

I imagine it was fantastic if you were actually there, and i
would love to see him live sometime.

But if you take that exact same music and play it in your
own room it's a whole different story. It's not exciting at
all anymore to me. Just dull and tedious, he has taken all
the subtlety out of the music. It sounds much more
straightforward than Go Plastic itself.

fair enough. but i gots this yoke called imagination that,
helped by the enrgy stored in the disc, transports me to the
moment.......... Thank fuck i got that function turned on to
full,,, thank fuck

"helped by the enrgy stored in the disc, transports me to
the moment..........
"

Yeah, you talked about that before. But does that also mean
you enjoy the studio-albums less? I imagine you would find
them too... i dunno... sterile? Or something?

"it's all just for one purpose to make the whole experience
as exciting as
possible. "

hmm, i wouldnr agree with this totally :)

i think he's screaming more because of the enjoyment itself
rather to doinf a gig more exciteing...i actually never
thought about how artists take the music they're playing at
their gigs...for instance aphex is always calm (hardly ever
shows excitment, on the other hand pusher seems really
excited about it and totally gets into it)

well that is just my opinion ofcourse

i wish i had seen one of them (or both :-p) live.

"i think he's screaming more because of the enjoyment
itself
"

Hm... well i could see how that could be true. If he gets so
excited about the music he screams to let off some of his
own energy.

But -it's been a while since i listened to alive i. japan-
doesn't he directly talk to the audience on there? I think
he asks them something like: "was that loud enough for
ya?"... or something. I don't remember exactly. But it
really seemed to me like he was trying specifically to make
the crowd go wild.

I imagine screaming out of enjoyment would be more something
like a simple: "YEAH! or something :-p

you have a point there
its been a while since i listened it as well, but i got this
idea that he really enjoys the stuff he's playing

but aphex does this even better perhaps...i dont know how he
is able to show that little (none) feelings while he's
playing - especially when he's playing some hardcore music
imagine him standing still for like an hour and playing
totally mental music - people are like "what is wrong with
him" - and then he waves to them or just gives them a look
and the crowd goes even more mental :)

"standing still for like an hour and playing totally
mental music
"

lol, i imagine that must look very weird yeah :-p And in
that case i can see how pretty much anything he does
will make the crowd go mental.

its interesting alright. deserving of a thread all on its
own
"Our fave artists emotion playing live"

never have 2 artist been so different as AFX and
SQuarepusher yet pack soo much energy in

AFX: surrounded by friends usually but once he´s up there
he´s a fixated craftsman paying little regard to the
audience. i´ve seen him 8 times and 3 times he´s done a
little fist-shaking at the crowd for 3 seconds

Squarepusher... very kinetic, known to be a boozer. its a
release for him it seems.. an outlet for his bundled up
energy.... all his interviews reflect this and he has a
history in live energetic bands... wheras AFX is the
origional playing-for-mates, bedroom artist

Lets face it chaps, there are no real surprises with these
two. Always exciting though and always keep us on our toes
with their passion.

*wipes tear from eye

"he´s done a little fist-shaking at the crowd for 3 seconds
"

hahaha, and what a reaction he gets!

but it really is weird - even if being stoned while playing
(tho im pretty sure he isnt most of the time) he'd show some
more feelings...i guess he's just good at controling
himself

most laptop folks i´ve seen are just unemotional blank
faces lit up by their 36bit truecolor screens..... Plaid,
Russel Hassel, Phoenecia, Mike Dred, Icarus, cylob etc
etc.....

the most energetic i´ve seen are
Bogdan, Fourtet, Squarepusher,

Either way... it never detracts from a banging tune.
Personally, i´d like to have a professional puppetshow
moving to my beats on stage!

you mean Hecker...? i was too busy trippong on his sounds to
notice.. but James Liddel was a fucking madman!
..... the craziest, sweatiest laptop artist i´ve seen.. a
real showman, but into it too... for real

this to groups you've made

"Plaid, Russel Hassel, Phoenecia, Mike Dred, Icarus, cylob"
i dont find this stuff is pariculary danceable?

on the other hand pusher and raczynski make me go crazy...

performing

fuck! You've seen him live?! (surely you mean Kim
Hiorthoy?) What was it like? Did you talk to him afterwards?
Was he showing projections with his artwork?
Very cool tolstoyed :-) I envy you.

In one of his book there is a story of how he visited
amsterdam... if only i would have known he was in holland at
that time :-p

Then again, they say meeting your heros can only lead to
dissapointment... so maybe it's all for the best.

silly me...yes its kim hiorthoy

well, actually he was in my top 5 on saturday-and there was
like +30 acts

he was playing some pretty wicked music...not much alike any
of his albums
except for the synth sound-that must be like his trade mark
i guess
he was really going mental and jumping all over the stage -
doing that the crowd was getting wild as well ofcourse
it was totally unexpected as i always imagined him as being
kind of timid (not sure why - perhaps because of his
photos)
i didnt speak with him...not sure what would've i asked him
either (there was someone offering me backstage pass-but
thats of no use to me as i have nothing to ask hehe)
anyway, the place was so crowded...even if i wanted to talk
to tim i think it would be pretty impossible

i'll definitely keep my eyes opened if he comes around some
place suitable :)

"Then again, they say meeting your heros can only lead to
dissapointment... so maybe it's all for the best."

perhaps its better to meet artists in gigs with less
audience...they mingle with the crowd after their gig, so
that is a good chance to talk to them
