I actually think "Wills" is OK. When you consider the background he comes from and the people that have surrounded him all of his life, he actually seems relatively down to earth. I met people at uni from upper class upbringings who were much more arrogant/wankerly than he seems to be. My mate went to St. Andrews University and Prince William was in his halls of residence during the last year (and apparently this was one of the more average student halls in the town). He saw him around quite a bit, and apparently he tried to fit in and be as normal (and quiet) as possible. He seemed to want people just to treat him as a normal person. He apparently hates being so famous and doesn't even want to be king. Just imagine being him - I think it would be fucking awful, I'd much rather be me. I also think inverted snobbery is just as bad as snobbery itself. We are all who we are by an accident of birth, and we should always judge people on their individual merits, not their backgrounds. There are just as many arrogant wankers born into normal backgrounds as there are those born into privileged backgrounds. OK, so the security breach at his party is hardly exciting, earth-shattering news. But it isn't his fault that people belonging to disgustingly voyeuristic Daily Mail reading Middle England wank over any news related to the Royals. |

Would you actually like to live his life though? OK, so he's rich, famous, good-looking, etc.... But, I'm quite sure he can only befriend certain people. Anything he does which is even slightly controversial (drinking, shagging, drugs) could be sold to newspapers resulting in further shame and embarrassment for him and his family. He is followed everywhere by security guards. He is a major terrorist target. He has virtually no privacy. OK, in theory he has fuckloads of money, but in actuality I'm sure he can't really get away with spending much of it for fear of criticism from the press/public. His whole life is mapped out for him already. He has very little choice of what to do in life, he is a Royal and always will be. I could go on and on. I bet his whole life just seems like a totally fucking weird dream. I genuinely feel sorry for the bloke. I don't let jealousy for the privileges he does receive get in the way of that. If I was him I'm sure I'd sacrifice all of those privileges just to have the freedom and option-to-be-anonymous of a normal person. I reckon there's a fair chance he would do if he was given the option. |
