it looks like they did an excellent job transferring the cartoon to the big screen, lots of screens where the hulk is being harassed by the army etc.
The hulk himself looked really huge and cgi, but then again, spiderman looked really cgi too, but that didn't stop it from capturing the feel of the cartoon.
Problem is, I always loved spiderman, but never the hulk. I will go and see it though.

Apparently, it focuses on the human side even more than the HULK SMASH DESTROY LITTLE PEOPLE side... that makes me want to see it. And of course, Jennifer Connely... mmm.
The Hulk himself looks cheap... I understand the technical side of animating a humanoid with all those muscles and movements must be tough, but it looks unconvincing regardless. Making progress though.

"it focuses on the human side even more"
in will be in vein and only add to making the movie worrse. it will get to the point wherre all you bloody want to see is some action, and you will have to sit thrrough some verrbal diarrrrhea instead.

Lou Ferigno has a cameo as a cop... the CG wasn't bad.. it was better than Spider-Man for sure, but the non-action parts did drag, but Jennifer Connely...
and they should of got Gary Busey instead of Nick Nolte o play the dad
but Ang Lee keeps the movie spicey with intensely layed out shots and transitions!

I saw Hulk this weekend. Out of 5 stars i give it meh. Thats right, 'meh'.
It starts out very good. I like all the research scenes in the begining. I work in a genetic research lab so finally seeing a movie where the labs are cluttered and the equipment is dirty and appears low tech was exciting. The comic book style framing and screen wipes of the scenes were cool at first but got to be a little obnoxious after a while. I was thinking "o.k. we get it! the hulk is a comic book hero." The background for the origin of Bruce Banner's power was also fresh and interesting, but the rest of the movie is so silly, it's really hard to take any of the dramatic bits seriously and the Hulk becomes kind of an eye-sore in contrast to the otherwise stunning cinematography.
ultimately, the movie is very slow, the hulk doesn't make his first appearance until almost the second hour of the movie (at least that's what it felt like). But when it finally does get to the 'Hulk Smash' scenes they are quite funny. It is gratifying to see the Hulk just go crazy aggro on everything within reach. But one huge problem with these scenes is that 2 of them are so dark you can't really tell what's going on. And i couldn't stop thinking about that old joke, about how the hulk swells through all his clothes except his purple stretch cuttoffs. I would have liked them to at least make an attempt at explaining this, or at least acknowledge that they know the audience is thinking this. especially when they explain everything else so thoroughly. anyway, this is easily ang lee's weakest movie, by a long shot.
meh

i'd give it 4.5 / 10
i was a comic nut as a kid, but i cant really get into comics anymore... and as with spiderman and xmen2 it reduced me to a little excited kid in the audience... i couldnt wipe the grin off my face, it was brilliant

i really don't enjoy too many comic-book based films -- not because I don't like comic books, i love comic books, but because hollywood usually doctors up the original story to make it more worthy of box office dollars, but then again, i guess you have too, since filmmaking is a business.
CG tends to detach me from a movie-going experience. I think there is way too much CG today, it's too sterile for my tastes, and I'm sorry, but I always know CG when I see it.
However, older films like Legend, Altered States, and even Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory prove that you don't need special effects to make some good escapist fiction. You just have to know how to use your budget.

by the way, nice avatar, teapot.
it is just me, or was joe madeuira (i'm betting I spelled that wrong so you can slap me) one of the best marvel artists ever?

i think ang lee did a great job. beautifully stylized. if you wanted to pick apart the CG then it was very easy to do. suspension of disbelief is key. if you can do that then the character development was great if you ask me. i didn't really feel it drag much at all, because i felt like the actual plot was constantly making progress.
my only complaint was that the ending was a little weak.
but jennifer connelly almost made me melt out of my seat onto the melted milk duds and popcorn covered floor.

Ok now I'm getting annoyed. What's with the "it looks too cartoony" attitude most ppl seem to have?
FFS it's based on a cartoon,it's supposed to look like that, get real!
It would have sucked mayor ass if they'd have taken just some gymsucker who has a bit of muscle and paint him green (lou ferigno). Nice on the retro side of things but honestly that wouldn't have made the impression of a superhero.
Nobody had that attitude about Spiderman while he looked fake as hell too, but that was forgiven because after all it's based on a comic. So forgive the Hulk too and quit complaining about that.

I personally liked how serious the movie was, it pretty rare that you see movie making an honest to god attempt at bringing such a far out idea to life without dressing it up with silliness and gimmicks to make it appeal to the younger crowd, I salute the producers of this film..
