OK I want a serious convo about this now.

I've been using a PC my entire life and I know it like the
back of my hand. I don't know mac for shit but I hear
they're great for music/graphic design and im very
intruiged. So can you people tell your opinions on both, the
pros the cons etc.... Thank you.

well they're great for making desktops! hah

from what i've seen from using both a mac and a pc:

macs (+) seem to run the programs better/quicker, and they
tend to display better. also, they're much more stable, as
in they don't crash as much, which is important when doing
design/music.
macs (-) don't have as many programs available, which makes
it limited (ie: no soulseek! (yet)) other than that my mac
is great!

pcs (+) are great for programming/hacking. everything is
available to be messed around with. macs seem to have
tighter security. and almost all programs are designed
primarily for pc.
pcs (-) do tend to crash (already mentioned) easier.

that's about it from me, i use both and don't have a
conflict using either one, though i do prefer mac!

I don't know really i'll have to get a mac to find out
that'll take me a while but i'll do it just to have the best
of both worlds.

macs run everything better. All you need is Virtual PC to
run soulseek etc.

ofcourse! macs are the best for these sort of things. I've
got a PC for all the silly odd music programs. Go to
www.cnet.com and get Virtual PC, you can use most of the P2P
PROGRAMS WITH IT.

funny, i just bought a powerbook g4 and i was thinking of
starting a topic like this.
i've been using pc's all of my life but i really like the
powerbook. both are great for different things, but since
i'm a student of the graphic arts, i'll go with the mac for
right now.

this mac is hella good in terms of stability. i had to deal
with XP and its failure to run half the time, so this is a
nice change. and the layout of OSX is sweet. very appealing.

My experience with Macs leads me to believe they are:
-unstable
-slow
-lacking in too many programs
-have annoying mouses
-shit
-awkward to use
-bundled with the worst designed OS known to man
-ugly
-crap
-evil
-called Leila

I utterly, utterly detest Macs. Which is unfortunate, as I
may spend the rest of my life working with them, as I do
now. :|

Ive had my first mac for a year now and i love it to
bits,its an i mac 700 g4 .
I run osx and 9.2 which im going to ditch soon and get
jaguar . i love macs because they almost take care of
themselfs and the programs are very stable.
i beleve processer speeds are growing far to quick and
programers strugle to keep up,so this g4 should last me over
5 years.

i like macs, but i really hate that see-through mouse. it
is so inconvenient if you want to drag something across the
screen, because its nearly impossible to pick it up and keep
the button held down. im sure you can buy a third-party
mouse though.

hey, good idea!! i could call my iMac Leila : )

....but how do i know if it's a male or a female computer?
if he's a male computer maybe he'd get frustrated... °_°

the only thing that pisses me off about macs is that there
isn't soulseek for it. maybe there will be, but only satan
knows when... (or does he?)

forck_02lynix > does this virtual PC thingie make it work
properly? i tried once to make kazaa run on virtual
PC (it was long ago) and it didn't work well...

the thing about macs though is that they're muchos
expensive! you can get a new pc for under a grand. and i
suppose you could go the iMac route but those are for
pussies anyways.

if you hate the macs mouse, theres a pretty simple
solution:
STOP WHINING AND BUY A TWO BUTTON MOUSE WITH A USB CABLE AND
HOOK IT UP TO THE MAC, FUCKIN PANSY.

...whilst working as a graphic designer I was using a P3750
and a fellow designer was using a MacG3. On average he was
crashing about 10-15 times in a day, where as I was only
crashing 1-2 times a day, this should only go to show that
macs are quite capable of becoming unstable machines
also...

- btw I found the perfectly round mouse really
uncomfortable to use, that's just personal preference I
guess ...
