What kind of equipment would one need to gather to make
autechre/aphex type sounds? I would like to try and make
sounds like the stuff on saw 2.

Me i've got a 707 and an R8mkII. I don't plan to buy
anything else until I know beats like I know the English
language- which takes TIME, you eediots. Simply wanting to
copy SAWII isn't enough. Everybody wants to copy
AFX/Ae/BOC/Jenkinson/etc. Everybody has some illusion that
they really have something to add to music- this is like the
idiot who calls in on CNN thinking he should decide the fate
of the world just because he has a fucking opinion. You have
to want much more out of music before you can hope to make
anything more than absolute shite. So, don't waste your
money. Unless you really DO think you've got anything more
than your own damn opinion about Aphex's music, which, I
think, has enough damn praise already.

leave the poor child alone. he asked a fair question - he
didn't say he wanted to change the world with his music.
maybe he wants to form a covers band a la the bootleg
beatles. could be lucrative.

analog equipment will work best for ambient music. my
equipment list is: alesis hr-16b drum machine, boss dr 550
mkII drum machine, roland mc 303 synth-type keyboard thingy,
alesis mmt-8 sequencer, tascam 424 mixer/recorder. i'm also
trying to find a yamaha sy-22 keyboard, a korg poly 800 mkII
keyboard, a korg dw8000 keyboard, probably a roland tr 727
drum machine, a akai s2000 or s950 sampler.

i use pc/windows 98
750mhz, 384meg, 16bit soundcard.

acid pro, fruity loops, soundforge, t-racks, shitload of
plugins. and also a few soft-synth programs. i have no
keyboards. i also do a fair amout of sampling from cd and
vinyl and then process the samples with acid or soudnforge.
