hello
i've just put together a small ep if you guys are
interested. its from my Xuetre side project... so its very
dark, very ambient with spots of harsh noise. if anyone is
interested in downloading it... you can get it
here im only making this available for a very
short period of time...

it is 7 tracks, and clocks in at around 16 minutes, so its
not a lot of downloading at all. the 7 tracks are basically
exerpts from a series of improvised jams i did.

if you want me to describe its overall sound, id say it lies
somewhere between the gescom minidisc and some kind of
sombre film soundtrack... anyway, hope you enjoy, and i
would really appreciate some feedback... if it goes down
well, then i will probably get motivated enough to complete
a xuetre lp... but for now, heres an ep

_james

2nd one is very soundtrack-y nice.

seems to stop suddenly though, at 1:15, like just like
that.

could you give tracktimes?

wow.

I really like these.

nice use of textures in sound, I always drool over that.

you could work out the short ones into longer tracks,
easily. although their shortness does have a kind of charm.

2 and 7 rock

what programs do you use? got some nice sounds on there!

this particular batch of tracks was using a lot of vst
effects, and plug ins... i used a granuliser... a program
called crazy ivan... ambience reverb plug in... etc etc :)

what sequencer?

yeah, i could hear the granular stuff...

me = love granular sounds

Fl Studio as a sequencer... but i wasnt using it that
much... the synths were me just improvising... the noises
are mangled loops, real time :)

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-06-20 10:57 [#00749392]

im actually working on creating my own hybrid
Granular/FM/Ringmod synth in csound.

heres a little sound clip... its not piece or anything...
just a test render... granular

so the granular program you used... it was called crazy
ivan... or was that something else...?

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-06-20 10:59 [#00749394]
Points: 14042 Status: Lurker

nice.

my friend made a Max/MSP patch... that is like an 8 track
recorder... that does granulation of the recorded
material... and you can even randomize the settings using
fractal based algorithms...

granular is just so much fun!

so many possibilities...

so is that program easy to use? i havnt used any
"commerical" granular synths yet...

there was a bit of fruity granuliser in there... crazy ivan
is a granular synth... it was a freeware thing.. very hard
to control, and unpredictable hehe

crazy ivan makes some very mad sounds tho

wish i had mac... the max/msp thing makes my mouth water

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-06-20 11:03 [#00749399]
Points: 14042 Status: Lurker

yeah... i havnt started using max yet... but im looking
forward to it!

granular can be tough to get to sound right... there are
many parameters to think about... but I like what you did
with it on your tracks :)

Wow, that's really great ! 2 and 6 are my favourites.

I think I once used the sample of the woman's voice counting
in track 7...

thanks :)

its just granulized sinewaves actually... im having a tough
time loading my samples into csound though.... and thats
what i really want to do!

but I think i might have figured out the problem...

#2 is really great. I will get the others asap.

Are there supposed to be pops/clicks in this track, or is
that just a mp3 glitch? It kind of takes away from the mood.
:(
