been listening to this release nonstop since it came out.
damn, it's soooo good. as soft as rock action, but with
less singing.

9/10

i only heard hunted by a freak so far, pretty decent... more
elaborate melody, still doesnt touch ep+2, imo.

im not familiar with their eps at all. does ep+2 compare to
a particular lp?

ep+2 is like CODY but quieter and more reflective. less
electronic than Rock Action and songs are longer (and still
instrumental).

sounds good. i'll have to start buying their eps.

what do you mean by reflective? melodic?

go listen to some clips on amazon or something. it's REALLY
great!!!! i love ep+2. if i could get my hands on ep+6, i
would, but its hard to get in the states plus its really
expensive i think. if i could have either, i'd go for ep+6,
though.

offline tibbar from harrisburg, pa (United States) on 2003-06-19 14:45 [#00748180]
Points: 10513 Status: Lurker

btw: ep+6 is actually 3 ep's on one disc with the christmas
steps video and another video i think too. the ep's included
are: "ep", "4 satin", and "no education"

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2003-06-19 14:48 [#00748183]

reflective as in introspective. you'll hear what i mean. all
their material's melodic anyway.

so you know, ep+6 is the same as ep+2 but tacks on 3
additional tracks from another EP called 4 satin (i bought
this for $8 or $10 at a show) and the original xmas steps
from an import EP.

definitely get EP+2 and 4 satin (OR just get EP+6 if it's
cheaper that way for you) and also get my father my king (1
track 20 minute ep) and if you can find it, the travels in
constants ep. and of course the 2cd remix collection (the
2nd disc is the ep of mogwai fear satan remixes) which is a
real must-have.

ep+2 REALLY isnt as good as everyone makes it out to be, i
find it rather mediocre, cody is a little better but mogwai
just doesnt cut it enough....for me. dont get me wrong its
not bad at all but theres nothing that smacks me in the face
and makes me wanna keep getting their albums\eps.

mogwai are ace, but they're not really ace at all, most
people could 'do mogwai' its just no-one does.

some friends and i did an album that leaves mogwai in the
dust.

itll prolly never see the light of day, as we are on
indefinite hiatus (our drummer is in washington state, clear
across the country)

a few tracks a lot from all mogwai albums and skip a lot as
well.

at all

yeah, i would.

sorry, i find mogwai, with the exception of ep+2 TERRIBLY
boring. i think cody was horrible (except punk rock) and so
was rock action. but thats just mho.

hehe i hope your other tracks stand up better than this one
cos it's pretty ballsy to say you're miles better than
mogwai. mogwai are extremely creative.

whats with the DIS on mogwai......they are awesome musicians
and i hardly think they are as UN creative (i dont' think
thats a word) as some claim. i mean they wouldn't have a
record contract, sold out shows, numerous successful CD's,
etc.....

strange for a so called BORING band.....sheeeeeesh

numerous successful CD's, etc..... these days with out being
creative!

thats unheard of!

RE: the love tangle thread.

oh, and claiming to have a better album as a whole than them
is just that. if you didnt like the first song, you might be
surprised at some other tracks.

and for the record: other than summer, ep+2 (and im sure 6),
and a few scattered songs, I think mogwai is boring
and really unvaried. i didnt say YOU would all think the
same thing i do. i just said that myself, i find the love
tangle stuff superior.

Mogwai are good Glasgow Celtic fans. They get my vote. I see
that Stuart Braithwaite Djing sometimes in a club called

saw them about 2 months back, they were fanatstic. heard a
few new tracks which were similar to cody.

at the very end they stood around a laptop making white
noise and went/then came back for more - the sound tech was
left at the side looking like he didnt know what to do
got my value for money that night
:)

yeah, i've been listening to it constantly as well, its been
one of my favorite cd's i've bought all year. its about as
good as rock action, which is among my favorite albums
ever.
ep+2 is pretty good, does seem a little overrated though,
its probably my third favorite of theirs, tied with ten
rapid.. which seems very underrrated, i never see it
mentioned, despite it being very good.

IMO, CODY is superb, but Happy Songs is standing out as my
favorite Mogwai. I fuckin love it. It's like they took the
best aspects of Rock Action, made everything thicker. If it
were food, it would be belgian chocolate. The ONLY album
that has come out in 2003 that I consider better is Draft
7.30 (even tho they are totally different styles) and the
only other album that may approach it is the new Do Make Say
Think, but we'll have to see in October.

oooh.. i was wondering when do make say think was coming out

tits: i have a feeling they dont, and if they did, they'd go
find out what all the mogwai hubbub was about by downloading
their tracks and deleting them quickly when they heard a
guitar.
;P

i know that one of the biggest idm afficionados (someone
whose musical taste almost everyone here respects and
measures theirs against) on here downloaded a track or two
of theirs a year and a half ago and totally didn't get it..
thought it was boring i think. i guess you either get it or
you don't.. i have no idea what the criteria for getting it
is either, cos i've introduced mogwai to people who don't
listen to any music like it and they immediately enjoy it.
on the other hand, people who i think "should" enjoy it
sometimes don't.
