mc_303_beatz...
here's an idea. buy cds and support the artists!
right when you make yr purchase, make a cdr copy (and mp3s if you want) and have that as your listening copy. if you fuck it up (scratches, etc) then make a new copy from the original you bought.
I hate hearing excuses way some people don't buy music.

a lot of stuff i would absolutely love to get (anything by lusine icl, say) isn't domestically available, or otherwise ridiculously expensive (import prices).
that said, unless you're dead broke, that should be the only "morally justifiable" reason to download stuff - if it's next near to impossible to buy, or out of print.

I've given up on CDs as a medium. I have a 20gig MP3 player now. My computer and that is my stereo.
But regardless, a musician should be able to make a decent living touring. I know it's horrible having to acutally leave the house and work a bit but shit.
As far as I'm concerned both the music and software industries need to fall.

ive kind of accepted that i will have my music pirated, and that my main source of income will not be my music. It doesnt bother me. I enjoy sharing my music. Ill release stuff on CD, because I know some people like to actually buy cds... but if people just download it, thats fine. At least they like my music!

perhaps... I mean such an event would be the result or cause the result of a major economic catastrophe. But I think giant corporations like any major label, Clear Channel cause more harm than good. And the independant labels that those corporations shut out as they produced non-mass-marketable products may be left to survive being as they only survive by word of mouth and p2p anyways. That's why artist ran labels rule - if that lead artist is good they can book a tour to keep themselve (not necessarily the label) in financial stability. Plus it gives them the right to be a snooty bastard about who they sign as they can't afford to hardly release anything anyways. Planet Mu and Tigerbeat6 come to mind.
And Sonic Foundry and Adobe have no business charging hundreds of dollars for their video editors. If they only cost $99 I would actually buy them.
I guess I stand where as if the corporation tries to rape the consumer I'll attempt to better them by giving them a forced entry instead.
I'd rather go to a label's site and donate $20-$40 via PayPal for the downloads I've got rather then buy a $15 CD that I might or might not like and then deal with it's packaging as well, a further clutter in my insane room.
I donate money to sites if I believe in them. Maybe I should get out more....
