obara, they are stills from some super 8 rolls of film my brother and I recently shot. The black and white ones I sent to Melbourne to get developed but I could have easily done them myself at home, and the colour ones I had to send to Switzerland because they have the only lab in the world for that specific colour super 8 film (Kodachrome 40). It takes 3-8 weeks to get the colour developed because I live in Australia, but soon we'll have to learn to develop the colour film ourselves because Kodak just announced last week that they are shutting down their Switzerland lab and discontinuing Kodachrome 40. Pretty sad actually because the announcement came exactly on the 40th anniversary celebration of when the legendary film stock was first introduced. Allot of the first National Geographic films were shot on K40 as well as most home movies between 1965 up until the advent of video in the 1980’s. The film stills on the cover art on Geogaddi are all from K40 movies. And Autechre/Cunningham’s “Second Bad Vibel” video was shot on super 8. If you watch discovery channel or have seen the program Globe Trekker you may have noticed some scenes are shot in very beautiful and colorful K40. But all is not lost because Kodak simultaneously announced a new super 8 film stock they will be replacing K40 with called Ektachrome 64T. It involves E6 processing which is very easy to develop at home and is good because it beats that 3-8 week turnaround time K40 takes. My brother and I are currently seeking a track to make a video to, we’ve been listening to a lot of Global Goon and the Analord series so look out in the next few weeks for it if I post it here. What about the photo above that you posted. Did you develop that yourself? |

are you a trained photographer/filmmaker ? those shots are beautiful. i moved flats with my g/f a few months ago and we set darkroom in our bathroom when we need it :) i've taught her some basic processing and now we can make black and white photos together. [or she can do it on her own since i'm more into making music for a few years now]. we have two old-school cameras and usually use some kodak or fomapan [czech] negatives. those scans above are a few years old, i need a scanner to scan my/our current photos. |
