Tibbar,

why do you feel I'm putting down god when I answer I think
he is non-existant?

firstly, I am answering the question.

secondly, it is my belief he does not exist. I do not mean
anything with it. there is no reason why you should take
that personally. I am entitled to my belief/non-belief.

9. imagined
10. non-existent

so obviously, all preceding questions are moot and need no
answer.

001 /

hmm. i find it peculiar that the existence of evil (however
one chooses to define it) serves as a means of negating the
existence of god.

002 /

if god is to be viewed as the source of all of creation (ie.
the principal factor which brought the universe into being),
it therefore must be accepted that it equally entails both
what we have come to define as good as well as evil.
existence in and of itself entails a paradox, because by the
virtue of logic, in order for anything to be, to exist,
there must also be the opposite of such a state - ie.
non-existence. in the same way, all things have an opposite.
god is all of the things you make it and none of those
things all the same.

003 /

another point to be raised is that it is not necessary for
one to adhere to the traditional christian view of god as a
force/being external to us in order to accept its existence
- one only needs to realize that the universe as a whole
comprises of god - and thus god is a reflection of us just
as much as we are a reflection of god.

One can as easily criticize fiction as fact, or so book
reviews have led me to believe.

but you do not criticize characters in a book themselves (as
if they are real) - you criticize how they were written.

"I just find it interesting that the people who said
"real" also put "non-existent" Huh?"

> maybe it means that he really exists in some way, but not
in a concrete way? that the concept of god is real, but god
itself is non-existant?

i usually don't read these QUASI religion threads because of
the infighting and crap that people feel the need to say to
others because their beliefs don't co-inside with someone
elses.....HOWEVER this REALLY gave me chills :

fleetmouse wrote:
"Those of us who aren't superstitious are annoyed and
dismayed that you benighted folks will mutilate your
children's genitals, start wars and legislate irational
social policy all on the basis of what you believe the
invisible pink unicorn in the sky is telling you."

"If all you did was keep to yourself and go in the basement
and chant and drive nails through your dicks or whatever it

is you feel the need to do, we wouldn't have a problem with
it at all."

i'm glad i've never met in REAL life someone who thinks like
this, cos if i did, i'd RUN in the opposite direction....i
have to say how disappointed i am to know people think and
FEEL this way about anothers belief system! and they say
christians are wack.....hummmmmm

Christ always does good. The two are not synonomous.

manticore: I think you made some interesting points. I
would like to offer some feedback on those points.

As Christians we do not believe that God is himself both
good and evil simply because there is good and evil in the
universe. We believe that God has created the potential for
evil in order to give his creations free will, but does not
cause them to perform evil. A Calvinist would disagree on
this point, however.

I also suggest you reconsider the statement that in order
for anything to exist there must also be non-existance. I
would say that for anything that exists there would be the
potential for it to not exist and for anything that does not
exist there would be the potential for it to exist,
especially if one allows for infinite possibilities not
based solely on ones experience .. ie just because I have
never experienced a purple winged elephant does not mean
that one could not potentially exist. Also nothing can
exist and not exist at the same time, in other words before
my birth I did not exist and after my death I will not exist
but while I do exist it is impossible for me to
simeltaneously not exist.

I have more on to say on this but I have to leave right this
second .. bbiab.

Well, we could lock you in a Schrodinger's Cat like
situation, then for all intents and purposes, for us, you
might only 50% exist. And in a divergant model of the
universe, where each possible reality breaks off into its
own, you would experience quantum immortality.

Pah, good and evil are abstract human concepts, not some
kind of entity that was created.

God is a ficticious means of hope that the weak use to hide
from their problems or hide from their fate. There is no
god, you fools.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not
able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

-- Epicurus

Clearly, Epicurus was far ahead of his time. And I also
agree with fleetmouse.. I fucking hate how Christians are
always trying to convert people. That's like me telling them
to become atheist, which, although is a good plan (because
everyone should be since there IS NO GOD), it is a plan that
doesn't work too well in practice. One time my ex-girlfriend
and I were having a romantic evening at the beach when two
fucking christians (in jesus sandles, of course) came up to
us and started trying to press their bullshit beliefs on us,
and gee willackers they even had a pamphlet. A pamphlet!
When thousands of years of genocidal crusading and all else
fails, turn to the pamphlet.... Brilliant.
