I've heard so much about this fatso lately. Does any of you
have his music? How is his last album, Fear Yourself?

i heard his older (cassette only) stuff and he´s pretty
good. expect brutally naive tunes, extremely cheesy lyrics
and the worst recordings ever.
the biggest things about daniel johnston is it´s honestity
and straigthforward aproach to music. that´s it.

Thanks!
Evolume: I've only seen the pic from his last cd, and he is
REALLY fat, yes.

just remembered, thanks. i had (what's the name of that
tape?) one album, he makes the most banal compositions
totally incredible and actually unheard.

I saw him live recently, and it was really good. He started
of alone on stage with this weird little guitar thing and
played three songs, and afterwards he said "phew, i'm glad
that's done!".

Then the band came in, and one of the guys played this
distorted little keyboard that made the whole thing sound
lot like the recordings.

He played the most amazing version of "Help" by The Beatles
(I'm not that into The Beatles it should be noted). It's
amazing to hear that song being played by someone who
actually needs help!

So anyway, if you get the chance to see him live in your
area, i really reccomend it.

I love Daniel Johnston. Some of my favorite material from
him is actually the collaboration he did with Jad Fair -
"It's Spooky."

The thing I love most about his music is his extremely
straight-forward songwriting, combined with a perfect mix
between playfulness and mentally-disturbed imagery. A real
modern master of the art of pop songwriting.

that's good to hear, because the live clips they had in the
documentary of him in recent times did not sound very good
at all imo.

I hear ya! I saw those clips as well. I was anxious if he
would even show up, but he did, and it was great.
