The place....a small but well laid out basement bar on the quays in Dublins City Center. I walked in at 10pm as the support acts, local guy Skkatter Thalamus were doing their knob-twiddling thing with the decks and laptops.
They played for a good 3 hours -all sorts of crazy stuff....
I recognised Squarepusher, Mike Dred, Wevie Stonder, lashings of jungle breaks and hiphop samples and some classic VVM-type tracks. The guys really know how to do it with fucked up but catchy versions of Bowies "Ashes to Ashes", Duran Durans "Don't say a prayer" and those planet-mu ripoffs we love from Bit Meddler and Rude Ass Tinker.
Then The VVM guys who had been hangimg around promising some "cccraaazyyy" andtics, donned their pighead masks and pressed play on their laptop cd player to give us about 10 80's tracks mimed and distorted the Volume verus mass way. Fun for 20 minutes but very boring by the time we got to chris de Burghs "Lady in Red " which somehow didn't seem as distorted as it should have been. Scarey.
So overall, the support was top notch but the manchester chaps were a let down. You "got" them after 2 tracks and the previous DJ'd already did that but with sweet mixing as well.
Go see? Only on a weekday....

"Go see? Only on a weekday...."
I did, perhaps that's why I enjoyed them :)
Also, I got absolutely hammered before going which livened it up even more.

i honestly think it was a bit of a pisstake really... a couple of lads having a laugh..... i did enjoy it but just thought they'd mix it up a bit instead of loading up a CD or something. Do go see em alright and get drunk with them before, during and after the gig and it'd be great!

i HATE v/vm. before i started to make my own music, i thought they were quite good, until you realise justy how shit they are and how easy it is to make the unlistenable noise that they make.
i bought the original mini cd's of the "help aphex twin" collection, thinking they'd be good......they were shit.
i also bought some tribute to Borrussia Dortmund FC yellow 7" they did, thinking it would be good.........terrible.
Avoid V/VM.

that is the beauty of v/vm the fact that people HATE them they make music that is to be hated. there is nothing about it that is 'good', it's ironic i guess.
i love them.
