Lately i have been taking a bit of an interest in medieval and other old swords.
They are hella expensive , but i still feel holding one of these beautifull works of art would make it worth the pennies. =)
German 15 th century Detail
Shifford Viking Sword This sword is based on a 10th century original dredged from the Thames River at Shifford
St. Maurice Sword Detail This replicates the coronation sword of the Holy Roman Emperor, used from the 10th century to 1918
1100 - 1250 Northern Europe What a beautie , simple design =)
15th Century Two Hander
Ravenna Sword
Two Hander Venice, early Sixteenth Century Ouch! Evil looking but not over the top.
Two hander Sweden 16th Century
Highland Claymore
Warbrand Not a single specimen of this strange or "exotic") weapon is known to exist today! It is copied from the Maciejowski Bible, a 1250's artifact that's a treasure for arms and armor buffs.
It looks like the mix of a kitchen knife and a samurai sword and it reminds me of Arwens sword Hadhafang in lord of the rings.
Speaking of Lord of the Rings , the swords in that movie triology are the best swords i have ever seen in a mo

....in a movie. No fantasy shit like dragons or spikes on the hilt or mega sized conan monsters.
Autentic and functional yet very artistic designs.
Glamdring Gandalfs sword.
Narsill Aragons sword , amazing design!!!
Ranger Sword
Aragons Ranger sword
Witchking Sword
Sword of the Ringwraiths
Pheeew! Making all those links was a pain in the ass haha! I think im gonna go to bed now , maybe i will post some more swords tomorow ...this is the "medieval fetish" site right ? I mean it would be embarasing if i would to post all this in the wrong forum , lets say a IDM forum or something .
Anyways seeya! / Sid the funky homosapien

You'd probably won't get that far, as it's illegal to carry such weapons in broad daylight like that...
And you'll probably hurt yourself worse than your opponents. Weapons like those are not meant for amateurs...

when i did lrpg i used to be into hc-playing and steel swords (not the soft plastic ones some use). i was kinda good as well :) had a dagger-type fine weapon and a large simple steel sword (looks like the sword in pic 1)
steel sword lrpg fighting is so cool :) i mean you have to actually be good to be able to do it without getting hurt. (the swords aren't sharp but they are heavy)

I used to fence a lot and occasionally competed. I was offered a place on the Welsh squad for french foil fencing (the light sort of sword the three muskateers use).
I'm also reasonably handy with Butterfly Swords and will probably get a training pair for when I go back to Kung Fu in September.
Da Weeze is right Oddioblender, I would really advise against teaching yourself how to use swords (especially ones used in a slashing motion like katanas)... it's a very good way of injuring yourself, especially if you do it outside and somewhere remote (wise to avoid people ringing the police). My Kung Fu teacher has a scar on his fore arm from where a broadsword went literally right through (stuck through- didn't cut it off!) his arm whilst doing a form when he was younger. It sounds like you'd have to be a retard to do it, but it's easy. I've had a few near misses doing partnered forms with "real" blades...

The Japanese govt. still strictly license and limit the quantity produced of "real" katana... I didn't think it was plates of steel, I thought it was the number of folds carried out on it in the forge that determined (generally) the quality of the sword.
I like the way the katana uses one quenched edge to maintain a sharp, hard edged, but it's backed by a comparatively soft one to prevent it splintering. I used to do a fair bit of forge work and I've made blades. Really hard work and I can see why it would take a year to make a good one.

yes yes it's just my english-it's not too good as you can see , words , words...
good words about katana are always in use...but i feel unhappy with knowledge of poeple who think that katana is only a atribute of ninja from stupid korean films....

i was searching once on ebay , and i found some katanas, few wakizashi blades, and such , but price of 100$ or 500$ or even 1000$ says everything about quality of it....:(((
of course if it's only for estetic then it is good. but if you want to get a real one......spend a year on searching , spend some fortune and you will get it....

I wish we'd never developed guns, people were a lot politer when everyone carried swords and "going postal" was somethign only master swordsmen could do to any great degree. Not to mention the fact there were no bombs etc...
Not that I want to live in medieval times, just for weapons to have not developed.

Seriously , watching the LOTR movies is like watching the tip of an iceberg.
There are so much tolkien details put into it that aren't even seen on screen.
Narsil Details The enscription is in Quenya : Narsil essenya, macil meletya; Telchar carnéron Návarotesse
"'Narsil [is] my name, [a] mighty sword; Telchar made me in Nogrod'"
Pretty cool ! There are loads of this kind of stuff in the movie. I heard that if you know how to speak dwarfish ( ??? ) you can actualy read whole stories of ancient dwarf myths on the walls in Moria , especialy that room where the main cavetroll battle takes place.

What kind of sword ?
My mates dad had this cool walking cane that was actualy a sword inside.
I need to get one of those =) I would go to costume parties with my stick dressed as Charlie Chaplin .
i would mingle with the crowd and then suddenly WHUZZAH! up comes the sword and people screams .
They would realize that i was not dressed as Chaplin , but the angel of death .......with a silly mustach...
