I like Amnesiac!

Ok, to coincide with my Kid A thread, here is an amnesiac
one... now this album is definitely not as good as Kid A...
far from it... but it has some killer songs on it... Kid A
works much better as a whole, and the individual songs on
Kid A are better too I think, but still Amnesiac has some
good ones... namely the first half... Up to and including
Knives Out... Like Spinning Plates is nice too, but the rest
of the second half is pretty mediocre imo... especially the
crap version of morning bell...

favorite songs: Packt Like Sardines..., Pyramid Song,
Pulk/Pull Revoling Doors, I Might be Wrong

anyways...I LOVE that song. too.

nod, I enjoy that one... the others tracks I listed as my
favorites I enjoy more... wanted to keep my favorites list
compressed... :)

like I said, I really enjoy all of the songs up to and
including Knives Out...

right...gotcha.. :)

*i'm a reasonable man, get off my case, get off my case, get
off my case..* what a way to begin an album...superb.

Personally i prefer amnesiac over kid a. It took me a fairly
long time to understand the album though... at first i
thought it was just okay, but a little messy and
incoherent.

But as i kept listening to it, it certainly grew on me...
alot. Nowadays i don't find the album incoherent at all
anymore. It works brilliantly as a whole album, and to my
ears all the songs fit together perfectly.

The highlight of the album for me is infact Morning
Bell/Amnesiac :-p What don't you like about it then
funkmaster? It's completely different than the Kid
A-version. The amnesiac-version sounds haunting and very
intimate. Much warmer and more personal than on Kid A.

"Up to and including Knives Out... "

Another one of my favourites...

The 2nd half is easily as good as the 1st imo. Especially
Life In A Glass House has to be mentioned... i just love the
sound of that trumpet... and the way Thom sings those lyrics
so... so... nonchalant (is that english?). Great
album-closer!

what don't I love about Morning Bell from Amnesiac? Well, it
just sounds crap to me... like the sounds don't fit together
well, and I don't know, it just doesn't work for me... I'd
say it's probably my LEAST favorite radiohead track from any
of their albums... I just hate it!

Maybe it's because you already heard the other version so
much... and all the differences between the two versions
make it sound 'wrong' to you.
Or to put it another way: you might have enjoyed it more if
they released this before the Kid A version.

I like how Thom Yorke described it as a "recurring dream".
He's so right! It sounds exactly like that. Like you dreamt
about the song, and as you are waking up you can only recall
broken fragments.

I'm going to try and buy all the single releases with this
album too... try to collect them all...

and also whatever other singles of theirs I can find... I
want it all!!! :)

sound like Kid A in my mind, not the version on Amnesiac...

So, do you all think HTTT will already be on sale tomorrow?
I know it's supposed to come out on monday... but i bought
almost every cd that was supposed to be released on a
monday, on the friday before that.

But then, since the stores are closed on this monday, it's
technically coming out on tuesday... which might mean they
won't have it yet tomorrow :-(

I'm not crazy about this album, it let me down after Kid
A... it was far too hyped and couldn't possibly live up to
it anyway. I haven't listened to it in an eternity and I
don't want to. A lot of weak tracks... I remember the third
track making my eardrums hate me.

However, Pyramid Song is one of the best track I've ever
heard, ever. I also love Knives Out, and I remember hearing
slower, sparer live versions before Amnesiac came out that
were pretty good too.

man you HAVE to go back to it. thats what i did, and now i
have a verry high opinion of it. not Kid A, fairr enough,
but therre arre some grreat songs that should not be
overrlooked.

Yeah, I'll put it on later... it does have some underrated
tracks. ''You and Whose Army?'' is damn good, not as
gimmicky as a lot of songs on there. Sounds imcomplete
though... it's lacking something. Dollars and Cents is
pretty awesome though, great percussion and bass playing.

I knew someone would say that. Well I didn't but I knew it
was likely.

Like Spinning Plates is nice but, after enduring Morning
Bell/Amnesiac, Dollars and Cents and Hunting Bears I'm not
really very interested.

"So, do you all think HTTT will already be on sale
tomorrow?
"

Ah yes! It was! I just came back from the store, where i
bought HTTT + there there-single. Am now listening to it for
the first time. Boy this album is alot more accesable than
the last 3! (first 4 tracks anyway). I'm already liking it
alot. Sounds more or less like the next logical step forward
from Amnesiac to me.

The artwork is really strange though... (bought the special
edition). I must admit it really does look like a roadmap.
Right down to the crap typography and the ugly borders
around each picture. I can't say i really like it though. I
would have made that map alot more detailed.... as it is, it
looks like a small map blown up to gigantic proportions.
Hm... i was just expecting more i guess. The music's still
great though. Whoever said it sounded a little bit like
Pearl Jam (jarworski?) was right! I mean it doesn't
really sound like PJ, but i can hear the similarities
in the sound of the guitars and the way the songs are built.

"its meant to thats what it is"

Yes i know. I realise, and that's why i said i had to admit
it. Like: "it looks pretty crap, but i must admit it does
look like a roadmap."

Still, it would have been SO much better if the actual
roadmap (the fold-out picture) would have been a little more
interesting and detailed. Like the picture on the front.
Only 20 times bigger, with 20 times more colored squares
with words in them... really something to study... ah
well...

I really love the music though! Oh my god, just now i
was listening to myxomatosis... what the hell is going on in
that song? I love it! :-)

Morning Bell/Amnesiac and You And Whose Army? are two of my
least favourite Radiohead tracks.
I loved Amnesiac when I got it. Since, it's grown off me,
though. I still think it should have been an EP.
Packt - Pyramid Song - Pulk/Pull - Like Spinning Plates -

YOU AND WHOSE ARMY?
HUNTING BEARS
LIKE SPINNING PLATES

Hail to the Thief is awesome, their best album EVER, IMO.

The best ones are Sit Down, Stand Up/Backdrifts/Where I End
And You Begin/Myxomatosis/Scatterbrain/Wolf at the Door....
:)
