Ok, so with HTTT so close, I've been listening to Radiohead more... Kid A really is fantastic... I love it... it has such a great history for me, when I listen to it I feel like when I first bought it... and I mean, sure it's not as cutting edge as Autechre or Aphex Twin, but it's the mixture here that is great I think... you have the electronic stuff mixed with rock, and even a bit of jazz...
So yeah, this thread is to talk of your love of this album... fav tracks, interesting stories, whatever!!
My favorite tracks are Kid A, National Anthem, How to Dissappear..., Treefingers (really love it!), and Idioteque

and really, even if you dispise this album, you really have to admire Radiohead for their balls... they were one of the biggest bands around I'd say after Ok Computer, and then they go and release Kid A which totally came from left field...

national anthem? Are you kidding, this track sounds so crazy... I can see what you're saying though I think... although when the horns come in towards the end and it goes all crazy, it floors me!

hmmm... well that's always been one of my favorites... speaking of the jazzy type stuff though, the one on Amnesiac, Life in a Glasshouse, doesn't do much for me at all... it's ok, but I think the horns sound awful, as well as his singing...

it's a great album, i agree...
:story: i wrote one of my ep's (song album), the whole thing, while listening to kid a. the ep doesn't sound like radiohead, and the lyrics aren't at all associated with theirs, but it was based structurally around kid a. i still enjoy listening to that ep, as well as kid a, quite frequently. :end/story:

I still remember buying this album... it was my first semester in university, and the day I bought it my parents were going out of town for a week... my sister went to the store and picked it up for me, and I had the whole house to myself to listen to it all week... I still remember the feelings... it's nuts how vivid this is to me... I remember it was raining, and the music just seemed to fit the weather and my mood... some painful things were happening in my life, and this album just seemed to fit... anyways, I also remember playing it for friends later that night, and they said it was awful... hehe... :)

National Anthem is probably the highlight of the first part of the album for me. I just love the buzzing bassline and the crazy noise at the end of the track...freaking brilliant. Coltrane would have approved.
The latter part of the album is owned by the Idioteque/Morning Bell combo.
The songs on the album that don't really do it for me are 'How To Disappear Completely' and 'Treefingers'. I mean, yeah fine, but Brian Eno did it better 25 years ago. That was quite pointless IMO....but even then, you've GOT to admire the guts of a rock band that so consistently pushes the envelope of what their audience expects them to be...and confounds them everytime. Quite like Ae in that regard.

Radiohead's albums all have perfect endings:
The Bends: Street Spirit
Ok Computer: The Tourist
Kid A: Motion picture soundtrack
Amnesiac: Living in a glass house
Motion Picture Soundtrack is, by far, one of the most beautiful Radiohead tracks they have ever realesed. (Note: i haven't properly listened to Pablo Honey)

yes: i listen to kid a at least once a week...it's like a once a week heroin fix (Miles' kind of blue does the same thing for me)...kind of blue and kid a were conjoined twins who were seperated at birth, but one was born thirty years before the other

i downloaded it yesterday. or the day before yesterday, i don't remember.
not awesome, but some very nice parts : ) i especially like Everything In Its Right Place, Optimistic, those are great!... Treefingers is very nice too... and the weird Idioteque. : )
some of it is just nice and nothing more though - but all in all, a pleasant listen...
the only track i don't like is Motion Picture Soundtrack (sounds a bit artificially emotionized / overeffected to me, though not as much as I Will on HTTT)

i side w/ RH, they thought that would be asking a lot.. imagine if you didn't like their new "experimental" direction, you just wasted $20 on two "crappy albums". plus they made a point to keep each album concise, making it a double disc would've been the opposite of their intention.

I really feel that Kid A is underrated. I mean, sure, it's quite the departure from the sounds of the Bends and OK Computer, but I find myself getting the melodies stuck in my head quite often. I listened to it today, as a matter of fact.
You have to love the trumpets on National Anthem... so groovy.
And the string arrangements on How To Disappear Completely are beautiful... and let's not forget that great synth on Idioteque.
By the way Funkmaster, thanks for visiting my site. Come back soon, you hear me? :-P

I was doing loads of downers when i bought it so the whole album makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

kid A has its tunes (idioteque is good, i liked morning bell..), but it just seems overall to be pretty clumsy to me. it just sounds too "rock meets electronica" for me. it doesn't really mesh the two seamlessly, which i really thought amnesiac did a great job of. which is particularly strange, considering they were recorded at the same time. it just seemed like they spent more time on melodies and less on adding electronic embellishments. anyhow, after i heard autechre, my standards for electronic music were increased drastically.
