oh have you cleverly spotted the blatant flaw in this
thread?

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2003-06-04 15:59 [#00727110]

albums in this thread that are not underrated because they
are very highly rated to begin with:
SAW 2
Lunatic Harness
Odyssey and Oracle
Forever Changes

... keeping with this trend... why don't i tack on some
more

Loveless
Souvlaki
Surfer Rosa
Daydream Nation
Dark Side of the Moon
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Pet Sounds
Beggar's Banquet
etc.

and now for some real underrated albums:
Drukqs (you think i'm kidding? you do realize that most
every critic in the whole damn world panned the fuck out of
this album...)
Do You Know Squarepusher
Recorder (Twine)
Winter in the Belly of a Snake
Standards (Tortoise)

... really that's about all i can come up with right now...
it's a lot more difficult to cite overrated albums than it
is to cite underrated albums... cause in most cases, it's
not that they're underrated so much as they are unheard...

Yeah, but the average slob on the street knows Sgt. Pepper
and Dark Side of the Moon. Who CAN'T sing Lucy in the Sky
with Diamonds? I just listed critically prasied albums like
Forever Changes cuz mention that to Joe Idiot on the street
and he won't have a clue.

very true... but really, that's another subject: what albums
are super fantabulous and only critics and audiophiles know
about them ( and you better like them or else you can't join
our club!)?

earthleakage, Trout Mask can't be underrated since it's
commonly accepted to be his most classic LP.
Underrated by the mainstream maybe.

I would say More by Pink Floyd. Don't gimme all this "Meddle
was their only good album" crap just cos One of These Days
seems like a dance track!

More is like an Ibiza soundtrack 25 years before the plebs
HAD Ibiza soundtracks.

Man, why can't pepole wake up to the fact More is Floyd's
best LP after Piper?
Heh, and only I know :P
