good Mp3 player?

I'd love an iPod, but that is out of budget :D

I'd like something small and lightweight, I think even
something like 256mb would be enough for me. ~30 songs or
so is fine if it keeps the price down.

Anything under $100? that would be awesome, hit me with
your ideas!

oh, long playback, over 10 hours, is a must too

am I being too demanding/cheap? tell me no...........

256 MB for under $100? No way you'll get a new player for
that. You can get good CD mp3 players for $100 but then you
sacrifice battery life.

I paid about $40 for my Sony Discman CD player, and it runs
about 40 hours or so on 2 AA batteries

I own a riovolt. One day my portable cd player broke down
and I needed a new one. Riovolt has some nice ones. If you
don't need the cd / cdr support why not wait a little longer
and buy a big f*kker like them Ipods? I bet they'll outlast
you.

you should do as loeser says... or buy a MD... they are much
better than flash-card based mp3 players imo

I assume HD is better than a flash card or something, but
anyone know something in my budget?

I'm sick of burning ~15 songs onto a CD to play everywhere.
Mp3 is just what I need, but I want VALUE!

I own a Riovolt myself. How about Riovolts newest model??
I like it because it's firmware upgradable. Plus that it
plays MP3 cds as well as my normal CD's.
Plus it helps keep my HD clean because everytime I have
700MB's worth of mp3's I burn it on a cdr.
I don't exactly know how long it will last on batteries but
I CAN tell you that on my model playing mp3's seems to cost
less energy than when I play a normal cd because a with a
normal cd the cd needs to be spinning and with an mp3, once
it's loaded the cdr stops spinning.

Jedi Chris has got one of those- very small, like a ciggy
lighter- really would be easy to carry about with you
everywhere you go just like your wallet and keys.

The ability to use it as a driver free portable USB HD is
sweet too. They're very simple in design- no bells and
whistles, but there's a nice purity about them. I'm
considering one myself.

ipod, not much, BUT its SOUND IS WAY BETTER AND IT IS HEAPS
CHEAPER, AND YOU CAN JUST PUT IN A BIGGER LAPTOP HD LIKE I
DID EASY!

12 hours of playback is better than an iPods 8, though my
Discman does about 30.

One AAA battery compared to 2 AA

28grams isn't bad either. Hell, I think I'm going to order
this right now :D

yup, GameCube & Discman now up for sale.

Hope to get about $220 for both (the GC comes withe games &
controllers fwiw)

then buy this little treat for $115, and have $100 left.

oh yeah, going to buy this guy right now!

thanks for your suggestions Jand, this is exactly what I was
looking for =)

launched a new mp3 player as big as a lighter. You can store
128 mb and up to 2 hours. If it's not too expensive I;m
suerly gonna buy it.

ok, got it today, and it'r pretty much just what I wanted.

It's tiny, and weighs basically nothing, even with the AAA
battery in.

I have ~28 songs on here, long big songs, and a couple of
school files.

No more floppies for me. This thing is great, the earphone
that come with it are the only lame part, but I have better
ones, so this is rocking me, woot!

I bought the 64Mb version of the Creative Muvo.....but it
developed a fault and I'm returning it for a refund. I've
just ordered the 256MB version. I know there are larger
capacity devices for not much extra, but I don't want to
have to carry around with me something the size of a MD or
Discman.

this is the 128Mb version but it looks the same as the
256Mb. I also like the way you can buy different coloured
battery cases for it.

My phone is an MP3 player and it only cost me £40 for a
256MB SD card to go with it. Some soldering on a headphone
lead so I dont have to use a 3.5mm adapter was a choice I
made.

I can watch divX movies on it as well :D

I've had a play on it and I love the UI. Like a version of
"XP CE". I give it about 5 years before almost all mobiles
are actually small hand held pcs with phone functionality.

It'd be sweet to have an RJ45 port on it to network it with
your desktop machines (rather than USB it to one)

i recommend the creative jukebox 2, thats what i have.
reasons i like it: it looks like a cd player so people are
less inclined to steal it, it has 10 GB of space, and it was
200 dollars. Thats more than you want to pay, but its a
good investment i think. battery life is 12 hours on 1 Li
ion rechargable battery. I've had the battery for about a
year and it hasn't worn out in any noticable way. if it
does i can buy another one on the creative site for 50
dollars (!), but i dont see that happening any time soon.

This is what I got... cost me $78 total ($68+$10 for S&H)..
It's 128mb of memory with a backlit lcd screen.. runs on 1
AAA battery. Since it's a pen drive it doubles as removable
storage, which I use in my Music Tech class.. so for me it's
pretty economical.
