i would definitely say that the minneapolis scene is very
weak. when i went to see funkstörung at the quest a few
years ago there were maybe ten people there. and múm only
brought in maybe a hundred at the most. the couple times i
saw jake mandell before he moved to berlin, there was also a
very small crowd. there are a lot of local artists, though;
have you checked out vital vinyl in minneapolis?

nope, i haven't.
thanks for the info.
there's also very few concerts that i'd even really want to
go to in minneapolis. it's pretty bad, though i wish i went
to more of the few good ones that come.

okay, i like the changing melodies going on, with the piano
and whatnot. and what sounds like a distorted voice in the
background.. i think the percussion could have been more
complex, but it's really not a percussion-oriented track..
it's good relaxing music... it is kind of repetitive, but in
a good way, and not overly lengthy..

hey plaidzebra,

surprisingly uplifting sort of tunage coming from an aries!
hehe! but i guess i only say this in contrast with the most
recent album 'the other side of the looking glass' by alias
(of the anticon crew) - same zodiac sign as yours. sample
lyric:

"i arrive on a breath of velvet wind. begin. enter darkness
unseen by those who haven't sinned. slowly step in time with
raindrops pelting the earth and soil, quietness to calm the
turmoil. slipping into darkness different than mr.lewis, i
hear 'who's this walking across my lawn?' my workday begins
at breaking dawn with each revolution around that star. how
will these souls know me when they don't even know who they
are?"

so there you have it, us virgos have slug, and now you too
can have an underground hip-hop hero representative of your
zodiac sign! =)

anyhow, back to the music, your global goon rmx reminded me
somewhat of the original track by this fellow who went by
the alias nhiiq which served as a basis for a tune i made
for an ep of mine a little bit. my translations of other
people's tunes usually don't have a whole lot in common with
the original source material (although i usually use mostly
the sounds used in the original, but tweak them quite
significantly), so my reinterpretation isn't as similar to
your track, but you can have a listen of it here if you'd
like (it's called 'all the love filled pandemonium'):
3ee EP

i liked 'when the tide went out' the most by far. i think
i'd like to make a rmx of it matter of fact, if you're
game.

manticore, sure you can remix "when the tide went out". but
i don't have multitracks or even organized samples for this
track to give you, you'd have to use the mp3. i will be
soon uploading a 192kbps version (the current is only
112kbps). i could possibly put together files of samples
but chances are i just won't have the time.

thanks for the comments. i'm going to download the track
you mentioned right now!

a lot of the time when doing a rework/rmx, i just use the
so-called technique of 'microsampling', so yeah, no problem,
it's not obstructed by beats, so it should be easy enough to
source out sounds from it. download all three tracks from
my page if you can - they're a trilogy of tunes meant to be
experienced in the sequence they're listed on the page -
instrumental electronic songs about heartbreak! =) let me
know what you make of them.

i liked the first track, wouldn't mind hearing it at a
higher rate. very nice melody, made me think of vangelis.
i'd like to hear it again, but without the mp3.com "temp"
file i can't play the mp3. does mp3.com not allow one to
save to disk a downloaded mp3 anymore?

the other tracks are too long, it could take an hour to
download one of them!

plaidzebra,

are you on a mac? that could be the problem. you can still
download files from mp3.com without problem. if you have a
pop-up window blockade turned on, this might mess things up,
because nowadays some shitty popup comes up prior to
downloading (just like on zbox). just click on the
'download' link and that should do the job.

if you're on a 56K modem, i could just send you a copy of
the '3ee' EP via mail (i send stuff out to the states all
the time). just e-mail me your mailing address at:

deejaymanticore@yahoo.ca

(the deejay part is a bit of an inside joke with me and my
emcee).

the track downloaded in explorer, i listened to it, then i
saved the file to my disk and checked to make sure it
worked. then i closed the mp3.com windows and surfed
elsewhere, then went back to take another listen to your
track and "the movie file cannot be found, without this file
....can't play properly" came up. i've had this problem
with mp3.com before, but then again i've also successfully
downloaded from there before.

anyway, i am interested in hearing your ep, maybe you'd want
to do a trade or something?

manticore, to actually answer your question, i am indeed on
a mac.

there are actually three tracks here, and if you haven't
listened and you have the time, let me know what you think.
thanks.

You made something pretty good around those really awful
lyrics. The lyrics still subtracted from your track though.

w M w, are you sure you're talking about my remix? there's
only one word in the "lyrics"! anyway, i agree, the entire
original gg track was weak, including the lyrics. it's
definitely a challenge remixing a track you don't like, when
you want it to reflect your own style as well as the
original artist.
