I'm 17 and have a whole fucking summer of boredom ahead of
me. I really want to learn how to make electronic music.

What programs are good for people who have NO exprience in
making tracks? I could really use some help and/or advice.

reason so i hear. I use cubase, but it costs loads. And its
more for pple who know what theyre doing. Reason is very
straight forward, so is cakewalk. This post has come up
before. Search for it.

Fruity Loops is the easiest I think and you can find the

You will need an audio editor too.
Goldwave is very simple to use.

get reason, floops, techno ejay, some of the sonic foundry
b.s., some of the analogx(.com) b.s., fuck cubase, it's not
specific enough imo, try protools, buzz, whatever- just fuck
with everything until u get something that sounds ear
piercingly terrible, then post it on this message board.

Buzz
It does everything. Provided you take the time to get to
grips with it and uncover it's awesomeness. Use with Reaktor
and Kontakt for best results.

Another essential thing IMO is a "full duplex" soundcard ,
full duplex means you can use several audio aplications at
the same time. Play and Record at the same time for example.

a full summer full boredom ahead of you èh?,..an
interesting start into making music ,.indeed.....

you need 2 programs. A wave-editor (assuming your pc based)
And a sequencing/mastering tool.

I suggest you buy a ps2 ,.(or dl wavelab for the
soundcapturing/editting and fruityloops for sequencing (for
mastering I suggest cubase)

Are you still in a mood with me qrter?

Have a play with 'Reason' if you're starting out... It's fun
and helps you understand the reasoning behind other
programs...

Is soundforge any good for mastering?
I mean if you've made a track in another application, like
cubase/FL/Reason or anything, can you improve the track in
Soundforge? I even have soundforge, but right now I only use
it to add effects to sounds (not complete tracks) n stuff.

get the TC electronics plug ins, they're cool at doing
analog style compression/limiting to whole tracks

Amnesiac - If youre into using audio loops you should try
Sonic Fountry Acid

Key_secret - I use T-Racks, Its definately one of the best
mastering applications imo!

Fuck Cubase cos it's not specific enough? Surely this is an
advantage? Oh, and Buzz is great cos it's so flexible - you
can generate some fucked up shit really easily.

well, all basic mastering (volume, panning etc.) I do in
Cubase.

however I do use SF sometimes afterwards, take bits out,
make bits a little more interesting, smoothe things out etc.
so its part of the mastering process I guess.

Good mastering plugz for Sound Forge (directX) are Izotope
Ozone 2, Waves 4 and the included Wave Hammer. TC is also ok
but if I must choose I use Ozone 2 and Waves L2 (both for
tight heavy sound).

taureg and tu2, both by bram bos. both have a VERY generous
freeware mode. best if used in conjunction with one or more
other programs.
